S130

Thought I might start a build thread here for my 280ZX.

bought her back in 2008 lookin like this:

got her cleaned up a little bit, threw on $70 coilover sleeves and drove around for a while

got hit by a Ford Ranger

went through and replaced all the suspension bushings and redoing the front coilovers. powder coated all the suspension parts as well. (instead of doing bodywork like I should have :| )

blah blah blah got it back on the road again, rode on stockies some more, and picked up a super rare OEM ZXR whale tail for free

finally got some wheels

dialed in front fitment

finally got actual coilovers for the rear, picked these up off here for cheap

scored big time at the junkyard and got OG Kaminari Aero, all busted to hell. fiberglassed it back together and:

blah blah blah, put together a Hybrid VLSD/axle with modified crossmember.

ended up eventually breaking ALL of that shit.

now I'm rocking a welded diff with stock axles, and control arms modded with heim ends, bolted to a solid-mounted subframe.

now I'm drifting.

modded some knuckles because stock angle sucks, installed some Roll Center Adjusters, etc. car was driving better than ever

(have since changed to Negative Camber RCA's, straightened the LCA out even further)

I have a couple more degrees now with the clearanced LCAs and NCRCA's as well.

Sideways Sunday #2 (uncut) - YouTube
DISCLAIMER: that is not illegal, that is U-Drift. I paid to drive there and it was sanctioned lol

tired of the shitty Megans. Stance wouldn't go low enough, but wanted their valving, voila custom built super low STANCE coilovers:

these ALL the way up are similar to Megans ~1" from full low. rocking 14k springs on them.

went driving again, and these coilovers are fucking amazing. can't express how happy I am with them!

then I drove the dumb car to Long Beach to attend JCCS; had a fucking blast there, too.

bought a Cusco strut bar while I was there (also at some point previous I had also converted to dual SU carbs, and all of the other stuff I've done under the hood as well lol)

new long-term project:

because the stock suspension sucks, and S13 is kind of close to fitting.

anyways, that's it for now. if I get more time later I'll go more in-depth on some of the things I've done.

I'm also building two other sets of wheels (14s and 16s).

And an event this weekend that I'm super excited on.

other than that, I haven't been doing too much besides maintenence lately.

Trying to get my other shell brought home to start working on it and prepping it for a full shell-swap.

oh shit, didn't realize this got posted LOL

pulled the motor last weekend and re-gasketed the whole thing, also dialed the cam in (not sure if I had it right in the first place LOL)

car runs amazingly now!

pic of all the shit I had prepared, including my modded motor mount brackets (raised motor 1/2")
and also the mess it left. just put that new cardboard under a week prior O_O

reassembly beginning

instafail pic a friend took once everything was back together

and once again that's all for now

Can't believe I'm just now reading this. Shit is spot on! Love it. Makes me strive for a s30/s130 that much more!

Just out of curiousity, are those coilovers s130 specific or are they for the s13? If they're for the s13, what was needed in order for them to be fitted into the s130?

Also, where the hell did you score that sweet ZXR whale tail from?!

P.S. Definitely Subbed!

His coilovers are converted s13 coilovers.

He also got his whale tail for free from some indian guy or something the lucky fuck lol.

One of my favorite S130's, I'm surprised you just now started your build thread on this site.

for the fronts: chop the ZX strut tubes down, shave the coilovers collar and weld it onto the strut tube

for the rear: I had a custom top had make that worked with the ZX rear bolt pattern. I believe ppk just drilled another hole and bolted the rear coilovers up like normal.

Yep. Seems to be popular among the Z31 crowd. So much that Stance makes coilovers with the conversion in mind:STANCE Nissan Z31 GR+ Coilover - Touge Factory Store

What I'm more interested in how you plan to mount the subframe. My interest comes from the fact that I have a complete S13 rear subframe waiting to be installed on my S130.

haha thanks guys

front coilovers are pieced together. OEM strut tubes sectioned 2.5" using Koni red inserts for a MKI VW, Ground Control sleeves (pulled from a Honda in the junkyard) and 6k springs.

rear are essentially S13 (top mount and lower mounts will fit in an S13) but I special ordered dampers for a DC2 Integra from Touge Factory, they're basically just ~3" shorter than regular S13 dampers and valved for 12k springs (I run 14k springs, though). lower bolts up like normal, but up top I just drilled another hole and ground the center hole out enough to let the coilover come through it.

Have any pics of the set up? Would be alot easier for me to put 2 and 2 together if I'm actually looking at it.

You cut this useless shit off

Here is a pic of a test fit tube, regular tube before I but it down, and a complete tube to show length

You then weld that shit onto the tube and powder coat it

Then screw in the tube

S130 Slammage! - Project Datto - Ratsun Forums

kind of redundant to post a build thread in a build thread, but yo dawg I heard you like....

His fronts are different because he used coilover sleeves with a shorter strut insert. Just search sectioned struts datsun 240z and there will be a ton of posts.

Also just out of curiosity do you have a dyno after the SU install?

nope, never dynoed after carb install. wasn't making enough extra power to bother (found out cam timing was off when I pulled the motor hahaha). not to mention I can't get on a dyno anyways lol

Haven't really done anything lately.

went do an event, first time on a road course, had a blast.

installed an MSD, no pics, but it's pretty standard lol

and today I bent and replaced my front crossmember. apparently it was pretty bent up before anyways, since at the same height it now scrapes going in and out of my driveway lmao

very slight progress has been made.

RLCA's have been narrowed ~1" iirc. now the rest of the stock arms are in a bind, and the stock toe arms are about an inch too long to even try to bolt up lmao.

ilovetacotaco brand RLCA's hahaha they fit like total ass but I'd rather cut up $120 arms than $400-500 arms.

I need to order the rest of the arms now so I can dial the alignment in a little (looking for ~3* camber and 0 toe) so I can figure out what my maximum backspacing I can run. And also need to find a diff and axles so I can see how bad those fuckers are going to bind up and how much work it will be to make them work.

Hoping I can run a 12.5 or 13J under stock metal without gnarly camber and absurd fender pulling.
