Center console for my s14...

After laying out the flat pattern in Inventor, I sent it over to be flow cut. This bent rendering isn't right as I didn't have my car in front of me to calculate the bends. Since my sheet metal rollers can't handle 0.125" 5052, I formed it with a mallet, some clamps and few pieces of tube.

Little bit of TIG welding for the EDFC bracket.

new ball joints, energy bushings, and the obvious reinforcement, it's been a while sine I welded, but overall I'm happy with how it turned out for my first time hole flaring.

good custom fab work by everyone. tell me what dimpled holes do for structure compared to flat plat. does this increase strength or just for looks. looks sick

yeah each piece added weights only few onces after they were cross drilled and dimpled. all bolt points are left accessible, the ball joints can still even be replaced if needed in the future as well.

i just picked up a miller syncrowave 180 a few weeks ago, and just got around to trying it out for the first few times this week. so far, i like tig sooo much more compared to using flux core in my lincoln 140 mig!

here's one i just did today. its 1.75x.120 dom. the fitment on the notched piece wasnt the best and i could have cleaned the metal up quite a bit more. i'm using a red band tungsten, 3/32 filler, at about 90 amps. let me know what you think, and what i could do better!

basic rule of thumb on steel is around 1 amp per .001" to get proper penetration. looking good for starting w/ tig!

this is a roll cage i fabricated for a customer recently, its a full 10 point cage made specifically with irish racing in mind,
for Prodrift/Time Attack/ITCC/Road sprints/Hill climbs etc. it exceeds FIA/MSA regulations as its made from avaition grade CDS and is Mig welded.

thanks.

na not on this one, that all the customer needed to pass minimum regs for the motorsport he was competing in.

Again you have raced the bar on fitting a cage. We require a 360* weld, so it is hard to get the tubing that close to the roof line.

The problem is that you'll need 220V power for any decent TIG. The 110V Lincoln/Miller/Hobarts are great for car stuff, since we rarely need to weld anything as thick as 1/8" and can work with steel. Get whatever you can afford and have power for.

U think the 110 mig welders could penetrate the material to weld a standard roll cage? Never tried it. Maybe pre heat the metal and weld??
