whats the best way to install wide rear fenders???

well guys im about to put my rear wheels that are 11.5 wide, and thats why i have to install my rear wide fenders, but i don't know whats the best way to do it, so if you know whats the best way, or you have any suggestions please lend me know.

Well, there are several FAQs on zilvia from various other people that went widebody. If you just search for them...I know there is at least 1 that is VERY in depth and should be able to answer every question that you might have. Also, if you haven't done bodywork before you might should take it to a bodyshop. Just to avoid the whole "Oh shit, what have I done to my car?!" speech.

welder
plasma cutter
rivet gun and propane torch and hammer is about all you need
takes a few hours to do it right

i want to mold my rear wides in
looks sooo fucking awesome when its smooth amd molded
but alas, no cash
and it will crack due to regular track events.

but you cut those fenders waaay too low
i cut mine like at least 1+ inch ABOVE the body line

I figure if u cut too much of the rear away, you lose a good bit of structural integrity in the rear which would make the ass of it more flimsy and flexible. Also i dont think you could slam it that low if you're runnin correct size wheels (18inch and larger and hella wide) on widebody to warrant a reason for cutting so far up. Unless you run over an elephant and you dont have coils, you're wheel shouldnt travel that high and outwards to slice your tire. I could be wrong though.

In that writeup the guy did cut above the body line? He just cut it real low at first to split the panels then riveted the inner panel up higher, then lastly he chopped the rest off. 10th pic down you can see he chopped the rest of it off after riveting.

I'm going to cut my old rear fenders and going widebody in the next few days also. However it would be nice if someone could post some pictures of a S13 hatch where this job had been done properly. I'm especially looking after pictures of the cutting job, as i don't know how high i should cut. Thanks in advance.

Alright as we all know what the body line is now i think that 1" above the body line is be a bit too high? I think if i'll cut up to that body line it should be enough space, or am i wrong ?

Don't worry, you can go way higher than that, you can pretty much cut off almost the entire panel as long as you leave enough to attach the overfender to. Less quarter panel = less metal to rust, haha.

Why i wouldn't take advice, i already cut my fender now and i think i cut 2" above. Thanks for the help guys.

yeah~ cut it up as much as you want!!
it's all thin metal anyways.
i think it depends on what kind of looks and set up u want.
rough rugged battle look ----> rivets!
smooth clean look----> cover them with filler, bondo and all the good stuff.
and i would say cut the fender as much as you can. then you can go low as you want if you want it lower after. you are going to cover it with wider fenders anyways.

Thats how we did it, the fenders will be cleaned, primed and sprayed soon also, i think i wouln't cut any higher, maybe i would cut 1/2inch lower next time:

did u seam weld just the rear wheel well or you got everything else too?

Yeah i seam welded the rear arches from the inside, i also drilled holes and then spot welded it where it is possible.
