Brakes cut out and ran into a car :/

So I was driving to school and everything was normal, but at one stop sign my brakes just cut out. I floored the brakes and nothing happened. I was only going about 5 mph but I still hit the other car. Afterwards I was testing the brakes they worked right after? I drove home and they didnt have any problems.. Checked for leaks and none were found and I had break fluid up to the line.. Anyone know whats going on? Master cylinder fail?

Sounds like master cylinder. If there are no leaks I'd swap it out just for safety sake.
