I slipped up with ps fluid during my install. I even had atf I bought just for this but it was late at night during the instal, opened the cabinet and I seen a big bottle of ps and guess what I used.....

Made the rack leak some, drained it all out and dumpped a bottle of lucas stop leak in there and its about done leaking. I hate all of their products besides their ps additive. I had a hard spot and whine in my dodge truck and that stuff fixed that too.

leave the p/s cap off and turn the wheel lock to lock a bunch of times. sounds like theres still air in there this will help bleed it out. Just keep an eye on the fluid while doing it

Bringing it back since my power steering decided to give my engine bay a bath in ATF.

Steve, when you did your swap did you take the PS pump and line from the CA18 clip?
I don't understand how your set up could be any different than the KA/SR one?

After doing some research I found this DIY thread from NJTuners.com:

an lines for the 240sx power steering and relocation - NJTuners.com

so the thread size of the high pressure lines appear to be 16 x 1.50 on both ends.
There's a Mr. Hose near my work, I plan on stopping by and seeing how
much it would cost me to just have the line made.

Thanks for the link, that really helped.

High pressure:
(2 ft.) 130606ERL -6AN Power Steering Hose (blue Hose)
(2) 139106ERL 90degree -6AN Hose Fitting, Steel, zinc-plated
(1) 9919DFJERL -6AN to 16mm x 1.5, AN to Metric fitting adapter, blue
(1) 991954ERL -6AN to 14mm x 1.5, AN to Metric fitting adapter, blue

Plug in the part #'s (without the "ERL") at AN PLUMBING.COM
and it comes out to $59.92 before shipping. Put it together yourself and save around $40. Earl's makes high-quality products. ISIS did come out with a great pre-made product first but this is definitely more affordable

Okay, so my power steering hose it leaking like crazy.. It literally squirts a stream of fluid every time I turn the wheel too much to the far left or right.

I wanted to try the ISIS Steel Braided Power Steering line. Seems simple enough, I'm going to order one tomorrow. Quick question though, it seems like some people have no problem with using regular Power Steering Fluid while others say to use Automatic Transmission Fluid. Which is it?

I don't want to break my power steering by putting the wrong fluid in with that braided line. Which do I use?

Thanks,
--Marc

I am interested in doing this myself and the info in NJ was great... However, I would also like to do the 2 smaller hardlines on the rack... believe these are for cooling also.

any info on what the thread pitch is on these?

I don't think they're for cooling
but it would be a good idea to do just so that they can be
tied to the rack and moved out of the way
since they always get kinked during engine/tranny jobs.

also for those making their own high pressure line
ideal length is 1.3 foot or so
I got 2 feet just to be safe and it's way too long

Okay, so I installed it with MUCH difficulty today. That one clip with the bushing holding the two hard lines in wouldn't budge so I just tore it off... the second hard line was untouched but its making a sqealing noise and its actually grinding. I'm worried, any tips?

lol thats not the reason the Rack leaks

Majority of seals are made to be used only with certain chemicals/fluids

By using the the wrong chemicals/fluids with a certain seal it will cause the seal to Dry up and crack or deteriorate causing fluid to seep by.

Any ideas as to why the steering feels worse? I used ATF and it's making a whining noise as if it were low/near empty. When I turn the wheel I can hear/feel a grinding. It's really worrying me.. What shall I do?

EDiT: I just bled the power teering and it filled up two 16oz bottles and both were just as red as the original ATF. Still making whining noises upon startup and grinding noises when turning hard. Please help.. I'm worried. It was working fine with leaky OEM line and since I switched to this one its been giving me this problem. Aaahh!

Using dextrol 3
EDIT: I dunno if I'm being paranoid but I think I smell something burning.. the rack might not be getting any fluid.. it doesn't seem like the fluid is being pushed through the system. The line seems to be vibrating when the car is on. Still making that whining noise as if it were low on fluid and it does grind when turning the wheel on the ground. Could I have put the cable in wrong? It isn't leaking?

so any word on the ps line noise. i installed the line maybe about 3 months ago. have bled it numerous times and i am using ATF. it seems that the problem is normal since many people are saying it's happening to them. well not normal but you get the point. Do you guys thing that the diameter of the hose is smaller maybe??? and not enough flow??

If your factory line was leaky and the pump was sounding fine and it changed after your install then your pump is bad. It happened to me also. Replaced the pump and all the noise went away. If you have a spare pump try it out. There is NO way you put the hose on wrong unless you either didnt tighten it or you kinked the line. And I am sure they are using the right size line because power steering specific line is only available in -6an.

im wondering now, if i should just make a PS cooling system...

would it work if i were to instead of running the line from the pump to rack, i put a cooler in between that feed?

anyone know minimum length to mount the cooler to the say the numper support...?
