sooo i lost the only key to my 240 i have. How do I go about getting a new one made??

ive been told dealership does not keep records before 95, which means dealer cant cut you a new key from vin.

My buddy lost his 2 weeks ago , called a locksmith and the guy came with a key blank , put it in uncut , wiggled the key in the lock enough to leave little scuff marks on the blank and started cutting from there , amazing to me lol , key works just like his original

On MOST S13's there is a number inside of the glovebox that corresponds to the key that the car came with. If you have the original glovebox, write the number down and take it to any GOOD lock smith and they should be able to make you a key from the number. I did this with my most recent S13, cost me $20 for two keys and all I had to do was show them the title.

my s14 key broke, locksmith came, took the lock cylinder out of the door and made a key using their tools in a mobile van, I made a few copies of that key.

I went to 2 nissan dealerships and they were just... fucking useless.

I had a roommate snap my key off in the door once. AAA dude came out at 2 am and used the lock cylinder from the glovebox to cut a fresh key from. No charge cuz AAA platinum is the shit. (I always just tip the dudes tho).

They get rid of their key templates after sometime. I think it was 2yr ago I checked with the dealership about making a master key for my 95 and they said it was too old and they told me they already got rid of the templates. They wouldn't even try to make one from one of the lock cylinder. They told me to go find a locksmith.

there is a parts guy at metro nissan that can tell you the cut code by looking at the key, he cut me one by the glove box sticker code a couple of months ago

So not true. I go to auction to buy and sale cars so some time I get older cars with no key so i go to dealer to make my keys.

Every dealership is different. I can confirm that my local dealership could not cut a key for me from the key code in the glovebox. Their response was that the car was too old.

You're an ass. This isn't exactly common knowledge to someone who isn't well versed in automotive stuff. When most people need a spare key, they take a key to homedepot/lowes/autoparts store and get a copy made for $2. Not many people have ever needed to deal with a locksmith before.

I work at a Nissan dealer and my car is a 93 240sx and I am able to still get keycodes from the Nissan Database we use to get keycodes from. I believe any vehicle 92 and older is where the keycodes aren't stored on the databases anymore. Basically you grab the VIN # of the vehicle, enter it into the Database and if it says KEYCODE NOT AVAILIBLE, Shit out of luck. But if customer has the keycode, we can still cut keys no matter what year. We use a digital computer key cutting machine.
