s14 wastegate vacuum or pressure??

Super confused right now.
ive been researching and people say run the wastegate on the
intake manifold. And others say before the throttle body.

Im trying to hook up my boost controller, and I had one side to the intercooler piping
but it doesnt seem to do anything.
Now I just hooked it up to the intake to see if it will work. Havent drove it yet

Rb25 stock series 1

Boost reference pre throttle body preferred. I've heard vacuum has ill effects on wastegate diaphragms.

Most of the time the source is right on the compressor.
For instance V

Hooked up wrong most likely, no offense.

They only function one way so of it's not routed the right way it could actually cause the wastegate to stay shut, and you'd over boost

^^Yup^^

WG reference should be as close to the boost source (compressor) as possible. Vacuum reference should be behind the TB. Best way to ensure this is to either tap a nipple into the surge tank or use an existing nipple that is nowhere near the TB... or that you know 100% references intake manifold pressures.

NOTE- Only in a situation where getting the car home matters should you ever tee your vac/boost line to the FPR. Best way to fix this on an OEM setup is to tap a separate 4mm nipple into the surge tank and get your vacuum reference from there.

It was once posted on the Garrett website in a tech article, that a wastegate must be connected to a pressure source only. This is to prevent the diaphragm from being damaged, as it not designed to see engine vacuum, ie. diaphragm being pulled on as opposed to pushed. From factory, the wastegate signal is taken from the cold pipe.

Ive tried my intercooler pipe. I welded a nipple on it.
Ive even switched the vacuum lines around and the ebc does nothing .
What it does do,
low setting
as low as possible overboosts.

High settings
stays at stock boost pressure 6.5

Ive switched the vacuum lines and still the same

I prefer getting boost source from between the inter cooler outlet and throttle body. There's pressure drop between turbo outlet and post inter cooler.

Vacuum source has to be after the throttle body as there is no vacuum before the throttle body.

Rb maybe different but here are some pics of my sr. I tapped my waste gate off the hotpipe pretty close to the turbo. Boost gauge is t'd off one of the tb ports with another stock line. Forgot what it goes to. And my bov is pulled off the other dedicated tb port, the large line. Bov can not be tapped because it is sensing the difference in pressure between the ic piping and plenum. It does not operate like a wastegate. This maybe your issue with the BC not working. Well I can't figure out how to post pics on my tablet right now. I'll post when I do.

If the turbo does not have the nipple on it already, it probably has one of those round bosses near the outlet that you can tap for a fitting.

Another option is to find an S2 compressor outlet that has the fitting on it from the factory.

Or purchase this.

Also since it's a ebc make sure you have it hooked up for internally gated. There will be a switch or something to designate external or internal and can change the way the ebc responds.

^^there is an additional port on the solenoid for external gate.

OP did you download/read the instructions? It's a very simple setup and the same EBC many of is use... Doesn't matter what motor you have- setup concept is the same for all.

Yes i did read the instruction but check this out.

I got it working but the setting are weird.

Set 11
Gain 14
Start boost (also set gain) 3

8 psi boost then drops back down to 6.5

Then I tried.

Set 20
gain 14
Start boost 90

6.5 psi

I thought the higher numbers, the more boost. Not opposite.

Also, when the ebc is off.
It overboost like crazy
My turbo just goes ham

Thank you guys for all the advice. Im going to double check my turbo for a line.

Over boosting sounds like it's not letting the wastegate open so most likely a line in the wrong place

Low settings, low boost.

High settings havent tried it yet.
Im going to try something like

Set 30
gain 13
Start boost 35

See if I can get 14 psi as my high setting

You'll want to turn your gain up past 20. Start at 30%, 20 gain with WG SETTING AT 1.0bar.

No. Set gain should be 1.0-1.2. Unless they've been updated, my Profec B Spec II gives readings in bar not psi. Are you sure there isn't a decimal
Point in there?

Mine doesnt have a decimal point.
I double checked today.

Now the settings dont do anything and my car overboosts all the time.

Connected the wastegate to the intercooler pipe and stays at stock boost.

I'd hook the signal line to the intake manifold since there's a boost drop from the intercooler, the piping and the throttle body.

This is exactly how I have my tial external wastegate hooked up with the mbc. Never had any problems.

Okay just to be clear- you're using the Profec B spec II yes? If so, did you connect the lines according to the instruction manual? It's gotta be something simple. There are 3 ports on the solenoid. One is for boost source, one is for internal WG, the other is for external WG IIRC... Whichever one is not used is either plugged or vented to atmosphere - not 100% sure on that tho- Check the instructions.

Yes profec b spec 2

Read the instructions and even switched the lines on the vacuum solenoid.

Now all it does is overboost all the time. Ive even tried switching out the solenoid. Still overboosts on any settings that I give it. Its pissing me off.
I just hit 22 psi cause it jumped so fast.
Possible a bad ebc? Got it used from ebay

Before EVER even pressing any buttons to get into the settings, there is an initial boost setting that is done by rotating the knob without pressing any of the lo/hi or set buttons... THIS is your initial boost pressure number... for 1-1.2bar, I keep it down around 18-20%...

If I were you, I'd start with it turned all the way down and work your way up vs. starting at 30-anything.
