Street driven s13 type-X inspired drift build

I wasn't going to make a build thread for this car but I read a few on Zilvia and decided to go for it and try to update as often as I can.

I bought this car in early 2013. The plan is to build a car I can use to on the track and the street.

My last s14 was flooded in hurricane sandy. I spent 2 years building that car and only got to drive it for a few months....it really killed me to get rid of it but I always wanted an hatch so I decided this was my chance. Sold her as a flooded car and picked up this 89, SOHC and all. I'm sorry but most pictures will be from a cell phone haha.

The only picture I could find of my car when I first bought it. I started working on it the next day and it was repainted by the end of the same month.

Here is what it looked like for a while, before I did the SR swap. Mods included Tein tie rods, ISIS arms, ebay junk cat back, Personal steering wheel, Bride rep, welded diff, kouki passenger/rear seats, square R33 reps, 25mm front spacers and probably a few other bits.

I kept it this way for a bit and did a track day or two like this but i hated the KA. I know it made me a better driver and I had to man up and enter everything faster and full throttle, but I needed an SR20. I made it happen and started the swap. I was stocking SR swap parts for about half a year before I even had the car so It went pretty fast. I also invested in some used origin front overs and found a great deal on some Work VS-XX 17x9.5 +23.

Here are all the pictures I could find of this stage.

Not sure what happened to this pic, but I dig it.

Most recent changes have been the BN style body kit, 4 inch lips on the rear VS-XX wheels, PBM knuckles, SPL outer tie rods, Kouki tail lights, Type-x wing and raising the boost way too much.

As she sits now (1/21/14)...Paint and cage coming in the next couple months.

UPDATE: Just ordered position lights and an OEM 180sx sticker for the Kouki tails. Might also be getting my hands on a Vios III Lowmax.

Here are some photos from last year...

I had weld-on PBM knuckles and had a problem with the SPL outers. They rubbed the inside of my wheels. Switch to moog and bought drop knuckles. Glad to see you put the car to good use!

Thanks guy! Yea the s14 was sick but i took too long to build it and didn't get to drive it as much as i wish i could have. So the plan with this one was to drive it as much as possible and build it as i go, which is what i recommend everyone does if you're building a drift car. Driving with no power definitely made me a better driver in the end.

These are the new drop knuckles by PBM. I tried a couple different tie rod combos out before the SPL's but the Tein outers weren't long enough to use because of the s14 LCAs so i used the Tein s14 inners and SPL v5 outers and trimmed the bottom of the bolt so it wouldn't hit the wheel. So far so good! Lots of angle.

Thought I should update this a bit, ive done a bunch to the car but Im not gonna remember everything.

-Painted the car a dark grey metallic
-Rear PBM knuckles
-Lowered it as usual
-Cage is in, so is 90% of the interior im happy with how it came out
-Kissed a guard rail, i guess you can say now its a "real drift car". Well at least thats what my friends are telling me so i dont cry. Sh%t happens.
-PBM downpipe
-Buddy club spec II catback
-Installed rear origin overfenders

Some things im excited about is getting my URAS rep hood vent, and I finally ordered a new rear bumper so hopefully those and my front bumper will be painted and on soon. Also getting a VIOS III in the next week, finally a real Bride.

Here are some pictures I have from a Drift demo we put on at the SNTRL x Import Expo INMOTION show at NJMP. Was an AWESOME track to drift, way faster than anything im use to. Third gear got abused that day for once.

Here are some other recent pictures.

Honestly I dont remember but if I had to take a guess, 215/40 up front and 215/45 rear.

Possibly 225/45 rear, thats what I run now but i run federals all around now so they are a bit meaty compared to other brands.

Some updates:

Not sure what I did but my car is miserable to drive. Pretty sure its because I took another collar out of the front coils to drop it a bit more. Front sway bar smashes everything. Gonna need to contact BC and get smaller springs or something for more adjustability.

My car has never looked better then it did the morning of Club Loose Freedom Moves, then I pulled into the pit and broke every body panel. Continued to break everything as the weekend progressed, but had one amazing time and im glad the SNTRL dudes got some amazing photos. Glad with how my car sits as of now but I cant drive around the tristate area like this so it will have to come up slightly.

Freedom Move pics:

This pic was before a street session last week. We are lucky enough to have a couple decent spots to shred. Time to put her back on jack stands. I hate working on my car, just want to drive.

Car is apart, gonna do some maintenance, hopefully replace the body kit, rebuilding the wheels (4" lip up front and 4.5" for the rear), stiffer spring rates, different hood, extend the s14 lca and probably a few other small things.

Here is a horrible picture for now.
