After Market Tachometer (tach) Install ?? Help Please ??
I got an aftermarket tach. To put a long story short. The tach will not read the yellow/red wire from the ecu. So after check some posts, I tapped into the CAS wires - I currently have it tapped into the WHITE wire.
Here is my problem. The tach will work upto around 3.5-4k rpms, but then it will not rev any higher then that. I don't know what else to do, please help. Thanks SCCA_Civic 89 Nissan 240SX with SR20DET. |

Because I don't want to use the factory Gauge cluster - I don't care about my Speed - just the engine temp, oil temp, oil press, rpms, fuel level, & boost. I hate the look of the stupid pods the mount on the pillars. So I am going with a custom dash - I have access to a water jet machine and I am a designer, so I will lay everything out and have a nice clean cluster with the gauges I want to fit in the space I want and so no one else will not whats under the hood if they walk by(its a sleeper - everything hid (except for the exhaust)).

so did you figure out which wire to connect it to? I'm interested in a tach myself - not sure which wire to get the tach signal from.
thx

On my SR i just used the red/yellow wire off the ecu and ran it straight to the tach, the yellow/red wire did not goto the cluster.

ur so smart bryan - autometer tach helpline master
from nissanperformance First, disconnect the negative terminal to your battery. The tach should have 3 or 4 wires. The black one is a ground and should be connected to a clean spot on the frame. The red one is a constant 12V source and should be connected to the positive battery terminal, or something that only gets power when the ignition is turned on. The green one provides the engine rpm signal and must be connected to the negative side of the ignition coil or tach signal connection point, usually a blue wire with an orange stripe (typically pin 3 on the ECU for lookup). It could also be called the TACH, TACH TEST, or DEC terminal and can be found in the service manual. On distributorless cars, the green wire will be connected to the tach output on the coilpack. If provided, a blue or white wire for tach illumination should be connected to a circuit energized only when the lights are on. |

call me a lozr but I was chopping wires yesterday and I kinda gave up and went cheapo on it... I couldnt for the life of me find one that got power once the lights were on. I came up short every wire I tried. I got peefed and just wired it up to the freaking lighter power wire, so when my cars on acc. the TAC back light is on :P

I am having a problem with the Green Wire. When I put it in the right spot, it doesn't want to work it just goes up and down fast inbettwen 1000 RPM and 0 RPM. Everything else is hooked up and right. The White Wire is in the right spot and the light turns on, the Red Wire is in the right spot for the power and the Black is grounded. But, when I tried doing the Green one the tach doesn't want to do the RPM's right. Any sugggestions?
Thanks |

many aftermarket tachs (like stack cluster) will not read off the factory nissan signal.
often times you must run a tach adapter like either the autometer one or the msd one. |
