s13 180sx output shafts /axle shafts c clip

ok I been researching all day and can't get a straight answer but I wanna know if it's true that the c-clip for the longer VLSD output shaft (passenger)stays inside the differential itself and if the shorter driver side shaft (driver)has the c-clip on the shaft itself. .. I wanna make sure that it's normal that one side comes out with a clip and the passenger side longer shaft doesent come out and stays in ... a lot of ppl are confused as I read amand want to clear this up thanks guys

Let's think of this another way, how is the clip supposed to retain the shaft if it comes off and doesn't stay on the shaft?

The clip should be on the shaft, keeping the shaft inside the differential.
