CA ca18det idle help

I recently did a ca18 swap into my 240sx

and im slowly trying to work out all of its demons.

im currently working on idle.

ok so I always have to start the car with a jump from my rx8.
it will stay on and run but only if I keep it reved up and constantly feather the gas.

And if the car is on and I take the jumper cables off the ca18 will turn off.

if I can get any help or suggestions that would be great. thank you

Well it sounds like your alternator is fubar, or isn't hooked up properly. once the car turns over the battery doesn't do much of anything as the alternator does all the work.

should see 12V with the battery off load

On load, there should be 14+V. My guess would be you aren't getting anywhere close to that.

Need to rectify one or both.

There may also be a significant power drain in the system that is draining your battery, but that is just a guess if the battery is really in decent shape.

battery was bad so I changed it. fixed the dying problem. car still doesn't want to idle though. I adjusted the electronic distributer and it got a little better. so im thinking the timing belt might be off a tooth

check your idle air control valve (IACV) or mass air flow (MAF) sensor, those are usual culprits with older engines and higher mileage. I know on the KA24E and KA24DE engines there's also a engine temp sensor that can tweak the idle if its bad. I would check those, I've replaced all those parts when I had idle problems.
