Damaged S15 HLSD Half Shaft

Hey guys, decided that the 240 needs an LSD and chose a HLSD from an S15 as the upgrade. Picked one up from an ebay vendor from Japan and the HLSD with half shafts got here real quick. Unfortunately it wasn't packaged well and one of the half shafts has damage. I've never worked on one of these, but looking at it I get the impression that this isn't going to work with the oil seal.

What do you guys think?

I think that's just a dust cover. The seal seals against the shaft, not that. Just bend it back.

Thanks guys, really appreciate the help. Was going to bend it back like you said, but just checked my eBay messages; I had asked the seller what he thought about running em same time I made this forum post. Also I've been reviewing this install for a while and I think I got it mostly figured out, but I'd appreciate a second set of eyes. Tool wise I know i have shim drivers, feeler gauges, a dial test indicator, digital torque wrench, and a spring gauge. I've got some gear marking compound too. All that stuff should let me validate everything is dialed in. The suggested gear oil seems to be either 80W90 or 85W140 and I was thinking of using Valvoline High Performance non-synthetic stuff. I recall torsen style LSDs not liking synthetic or lsd additives, am I wrong there?

I also ordered some new oil seals, just in case they're dry rotted and I hit up enjuku for some aftermarket bushings.

torsen style LSDs do not need any sort of additive in the oil. i dont recall hearing it would hurt the torsen if you had fluid that had additives though.

Thanks! That's what I recalled with these type of diffs. Any idea on which oil is the right one out of the two viscosities?

Yea I was browsing lots of posts about it and had some conflicting info hence why I wasn't sure which viscosity was right. I think the link within that link (http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/t...es-quantities/) is probably the most comprehensive yet, so thanks again. I guess 80w90 it is then.

You need special S15 bolts to bolt the HLSD to a standard ring gear.

Did he send you those bolts? Different from S13 and S14's. That have a visible hump on them.

Good call, just ordered the bolts as they weren't included. The output shaft bearings are a good idea too. Guy says its low miles, but who really knows. Thanks for the tip!

Bolts same torque rating wise? I'm just following Nissan's FSM.

You better have a huge table vice to torque the bolts down. You meet to hold the diff with something.

Ilya, I do have a big table vice attached to my work bench. I figure impact to remove from from old diff and the new ones I'll use a power ratchet to get em close and then just hand torque with a torque wrench.
