My 240 came w the 180sx (not notchtop) blacktop sr and the speed always read exponentially (ie 10 at 25 15 at 30 mph). When i first pulled out the vss it was an s14 vss. Bought a new one assuming this one was defected but still no result. Is it possible i have an s14 trans w my engine which is causing a whole shitstorm or should i stick w an s13 vss? Ive looked through other vss threads but they really have no clear answer.

I think it would be either your final drive or the speedo...

Stuff a s13 VSS in there. s13 or s14 trans, doesn't matter. The VSS should coincide with the cluster you are using.

Does that mean getting a different vss gear as well? The one currently inside the trans wont fit the s13 vss insert, its way thicker than the s14 insert.

Not 100% sure what you're getting at. I had a blacktop in a s14 but it used a s13 vss, speed read double. plopped in a s14 vss and speedometer read fine. I would just grab a s13 vss with the red gear (as it comes stock). Sorry if im not helping much lol.

should just come out and new one should come with a gear...autozone has em for about 100 iirc...
