Still waiting on two things.

1. Getting a large amount of money together to have an injection mold made. This is the hardest hurdle. Last quote was for $24k to have a mold make. I don't have that kind of play money but have been talking to investors over the past year. I have been trying to build a solid business plan so I can get Capitol from them upfront so that they have a good return on ivesrment.

2. I have the CAD models and files. I need them edited so that I can take them to a 3D printing company to have prototypes rendered.

Question is how many cars still around need these ? And considering the low ballers on here doubt you would get that 24k back and then some...

I will pay for the CAD rendering assuming that it is legitimate otherwise I will source one and CAD it myself, but to whomever comes up with the drawing, I will provide a 3D printed piece as a payment or whatever you want that is reasonable

Is there no other Nissan with a similar enough sunroof to make a replica?

From what I can tell a 200sx looks pretty similar.

Has anyone found a press in universal trim that will sit between the glass and outer sunroof surround? Just looking for a quick fix for '97 with a leaky seal and inoperable sunroof.

thats kind of where Im at too. That's why I have been looking at other Nissan vehicles. The 200sx is the only one that I think may work.
It's a shame someone couldn't just make a thick rubber or foam surround for them and just sealed it real well. I don't even really care that its perfect looking as long as its not an eye sore.. Though it can't get much worse looking than having no trim at all.

The rubber seal itself is replaceable and you should still be able to buy replacements from Nissan. If your trim is in decent shape, then that should be an easy fix for a leaky sunroof.

I believe it's an aftermarket/dealer installed roof. Much bigger than OEM. The glass isn't pulled down tight enough to the seal underneath. Really I'm looking for a quick fix so I can sell the car, it's taking up space in my shop.

Use a cheap handheld 3D scanner on a new OEM piece.
Create and clean up 3D mesh
Invert mesh and make a 3D printable mold.
Print mold, use.

Hurry up.

I second this notion! man Id love to buy the covers! don't get me wrong glass is good but thy are getting harder to find as well

As for the sunroof id pay 200-300 bucks for something like this. I just spend 200 for a whole sunroof because my Fiberglass frame shattered -_- so Ill for sure be buying one or two of these as backups as I don't plan on selling my zenki anytime soon.

$24k for an injection based mold is a bit nuts. there are 2 types of injection based molding, high pressure and low pressure. high pressure requires a metal based mold while low pressure can utilize a fiberglass based mold. you may want to look into a polyurethane manufacturer as they are a low pressure based mold and there are all sorts of different weights and flexibility to polyurethane mixtures. some are as flexible and soft as foam, others are as stiff as fiberglass. you could achieve a good seal with a soft polyurethane mixture.

one of the BIGGEST needs for new weather stripping is the outside of the S13 hatchback moonroofs! the ONLY way to get new moldings for it is to buy a brand new moonroof (which runs about $900 now if theyre still available in new old stock)... but the molding is preinstalled on the moonroof itself.

What happened to the idea of new moulded trims ?

Hi...there.A few days ago the fiberglass trim on my s14a sunroof broke and i don't know what to do...Things always break the worse possible moment and mine broke during the rainy season....I looked everywhere for a replacement trim but there aren't any.Neither there are any used complete sunroofs.I went to a fiberglass fabricator hoping he could make something similar but i was told the trim is too complex as it also has a guide under it...

Is there any hope for an new part ? IF not any ideas for what to do ? I am one step from crying like a baby..

At this point finding a used one would be a god sent gift....But as i live in Cyprus
you can count s14/s14a cars with sunroof on one hand....maybe two....So its next to impossible....

There isn't any on Ebay...
As i said before i asked fiberglass fabricators and they said they couldn't do it...
I asked for the whole assembly from the dealership and even if there is one left i am afraid it will cost an arm and a leg.....

Sorry for whining...but i have reached my limits...

May have found a replacement for the super rare Kognition panel. A company called G2 Carbon makes one, kinda pricey at $450, but its cheaper then doing a total roof swap.

GREAT NEWS! I sent the 3D files and the company was able to 3D print a full size prototype of the trim piece. I sent straight to my car and test fit. It fits almost flawlessly! I will be removing my sunroof glass and prep it for install. Currently waiting for new weather strip and finding the proper bonding agent. But if this works, I’ll contact them for potential group buy. I’m so stoked but damn it’s been almost 9 years since I first had the trim scanned. Wild man.

Keep me up updated. I've subscribed to this thread to follow. I don't need the trim as of yet, but I do need to replace the rubber which could lead to needing one. I'll be buying one once they're available, just to have.

Thank you for working on this for all these years.
