JSimpson, once you have the springs tested let us know. I'd be interested for $150 shipped for a set.

Jimmy, I'm wondering what you've proposed is any different than a set of KWs with 6k/4k springs? Sure valving is most likely different, but you've just suggested swapping to lower spring rates and were strongly against it in a prior conversation. Please explain.

Spring rate is a band aid for poor valving, proper valving is key.
Our SFWD civic goes low 1.5x 60s all day long it just takes calling a real shock company five them every possible detail on the car to get something with a good base point in valving. And even from there is not always perfect. Time at the track and keeping an accurate log of what works is key. |

As I said in my original post above, its a "cheap and easy" solution for us guys who have the standard 8k/6k type coilovers. It seems as the vast majority of brands have a coilover with X rod length and X Piston travel, with 180mm 450lb springs up front and 200mm 335lb springs out back. Megan, Tein, Stance, Apexi, amongst many others. I was simply saying for those guys, including myself, buying the 2 springs and moving the rears forward is a simple $150 solution to getting our cars to hook considerably better at the track while still being completely streetable.

But Amen on the proper shock company. In any racecar as you know most shock service companys have a good idea of what the valving needs to be right off the bat. Then simple fine tuning after that. I wonder how crappy the piston designs are on the typical bolt on shocks for S chassis. Would be interesting to have them revalved with proper front valving and see how that turns out. I know for a fact that Megan/BC/Apexi all use bilstein shim stacks. Its just going to take some fooling around with the piston to get the rebound right. Typical going rate is what about ~$150+ per shock to revalve them on a proper Ohlins or Penske? I would be interested to hear what Feal would charge to do this for most S chassis coilovers. I called HKS and they said they have all of their shocks rebuilt by Feal. |

Most high end shocks iv used require a ~$20 valve kit and you can rebuild them in your garage. Normally the cheaper stuff is harder to rebuild as its not made to be serviced at the track

I suspect it was making about 50whp-70whp less during that pass. |

Basically the car was built as a 10 second street car, fully street able quick spool turbo, full interior, no roll cage, etc. Just be able to drive to the track put on some better tires and run 10's. We have not setup any launch control, suspension or anything for drag racing really. Although flat shifting is setup, and we did do a bit of work to get the car to squat on launch. Running Tein flex coil overs and all after market suspension arms. Bone stock vlsd & axles. I do plan to get a bit more serious with a drag setup though, but keeping it as comfortable as possible on the street. Engine is a built sr22vet. Fully built P11 head with kelford 292/303 cams. Currently reving to 8700rpm and finishing the 1/4 mile in 3rd gear. GTX3076r .78 twin scroll turbocharger currently tuned to 23psi, running 30% ethanol and 94 octane pump gas tuned with AEM v2 ecu. Full race exhuast manifold, Mazworx conversion kit. Much more. Sorry for the shitty pictures. Last edited by candyred_240sx; 08-09-2015 at 09:46 PM.. |

Post your dyno graph in the VET thread, if you wouldn't mind. I'd like to see it. Do you have a run file for it?

Ended up buying a s13 240sx with a set of Hks hiperD drag coilovers, I don't much car3 for them as this car will be my DD and a weekend drifter and they don't seem highly adjustable. id like to sell them but I don't know a reasonable price to ask and I figured you drag guys might be able to shed some light on this.

So iv been doing a lot of work/research on putting a big wheel and tire on the s14 wits tick fenders. My plan is to run a 15x10 wheel and a 275 radial pro
As of right now this is what I have, beadlocked 15x10(beadlocked makes the rim wider than the standard 10in wheel) and the test tire is a m/t 28x10.5w The 10.5w is wider than the standard 10.5 the w measures at 13.1in wide this is a bigger tire 5han I plan on running but is goodoing measure as the other tire will have plenty of room Making the wheel fit And with the 28x10.5w The ride hight will tuck the tire in but will still have plenty of room |

He can't have much space from the shock or the lower control arm. What does the tire do under squat? Have you removed the spring and articulated the suspension simulating load for clearance checks?

Glad to see you are still working on this car dude^^^
I liked a setup I had seen a long while ago on SupraForums: -Weld drag lights 15x8.5 -MT 26x8.5x15 drag slicks....then went to Hoosier QTs same size -stock 100k+ worn out rear shocks and springs That setup was running 9.0 at 160 mph all day. Simple setup and worked great on a stock S14 body. |

Ya I'm working on it slowly... 8.5in wheel is easy to fit the 10 was a little difficult, then add in the factor of trying to keep it under a stock fenderl made it a nightmare. I want to run the pro radial so the theory was if a 28x10.5w fits, the radial pro will fit no problem lol

Where did you relocate the pickup point for the shock? I'm assuming you notched and reinforced the LCA?

Finally found the info that I was looking for. This was Ben Freed's old step on rolled and slightly pulled fenders:
