Gaming PC Builds & Hardware

I just ordered this punani with bf4.

all the benchmarks are starting to pour, now that's released.

I got to say, it was worth waiting. against the $1k titan, it trades blows and smashes it on higher res.

I recommend this bitch and support amd. @ $579. to think I was going to settle with a piss poor card gtx770 on sli awhile back which was way overpriced $400-450ish each. thank gwad for ATI, I meant AMD.

its going to my fx last hoorah build.

too bad amd cpu sucks balls without 3.0pcie support. next year I guess.

i'll update when it arrives.

here's some benchs

Yeah AMD all the way! I have had my 7970 OC'ed to the moon, for over a year, and it has never failed me. The R9 290x is really tempting me.

update ....

-fuck these beta drivers. I kept getting BSOD and some other crash problem which made me do a windows install. I switched to the 13.11.

-I keep freaking out how high temps these card get but, it was designed to do that, hit 95c normal operating temps. i'm going to h20 cool my system when I retire the 5ghz FX. this card idles well btw.

-5760x1080 w/ all eye candy on ultra high couldn't get the magic spot 60fps. it really struggle 13-20fps with ps2 ultra w/ FOV fix (bumped up the resolution). w/o the FOV fix normally runs 30-60fps . will probably get another 290x for Xfire.

-still waiting for bf4 (2 more days, yay), better drivers and mantle to see what this card can really do.

-my sapphire card doesn't detect my displayport on start up. I have to unplug it then plug it back to detect it.

been running ati/amds on asus boards for years. at the moment i got 2 6950 2gb unlocked to 6970 shaders. my last 4 cards have been sapphires and i have had good experiences with them. so far tho my favorite amd/ati is the older 4850 x2s. too bad they don't support directx 11 or i'd have 2 of those suckers still installed. at the least i wish amd would release a comparable newer x2 card.

do you happen to have a samsung monitor? mine does that and i've read from multiple places that the supplied samsung displayport cables for whatever reason will cause that to happen sometimes. i can't say for sure because as of yet i have not replaced my cable.

I do have a Sammy sa700. but, the displayport I have is a aftermarket amd recommended. weird thing is, this never happened before until I switch to 290x.

after digging more info. I guess, I was doing it wrong! I got to switch to the hdmi port.

That is a beast of a setup!

Newegg. I like their return policy's encase the card doesn't survive burn in...

What processor do you have? Most games cranked up their processor load for physics and such.

If you are going to mine don't waste your time mining bitcoins. ASICs make that so unprofitable now, look into litecoins. The 290x should get only marginally better hash rate then the 7950s.

Get the 7950's. R7's and 9's are awesome for games. They aren't much better for mining. Hash for dollar still goes to the 7950. Even at retail prices...

Okay thanks! I'm hoping for some NewEgg deals on Black Friday / Cyber Monday.

I started mining litecoins yesterday. My two 6850s are pulling a little over 620kh/s total. Still profitable, and I'm feeling out the whole process. I figure the worst case scenario is if I no longer have a viable altcoin to mine, at least I'll have a beast gaming rig.

Litecoins are still profitable, and they are meant to be ASIC proof for a while so it should stay that way. My 560ti gets about 200kh/s, which makes it not so profitable compared to power use. Nvidia is the leader in gaming but it appears that they are lacking in the cryptocoin arena.

more update:

been running single r9 card, because of the black screen of death. crossfire instantly black screen. so, I checked my 2nd card before I rma or refund. it ran fine.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAQoiblBJwE

beta9.4 fixed supposed to fix the black screen. so far, I'm playing 5760xx1080 crossfire/silent mode with the beta elder scroll working flawlessly. I haven't tired uber mode or OC , if it crashes. maybe later.

minor update.

13.12 WHQL was released. just finished clearing and installing the new driver. testing it now.

also switch to portrait mode and De-bezel my samsungs, since gaming in 5760x1080 sucks balls. 3240x1920 is the way to go.

going to water cool it soon. I have a feeling one of my sapphire card looks like this...

I'd heard they run hot. I was reading up to see if I wanted one but I could not deal with those kind of temps with a micro atx board. I don't have enough space to cool it properly.
