Question Missleading Offset/Inset Info

I know that offset/inset info is all over the internet, but hear me out. I cannot find the info that im looking for anywhere. I am going to be buying some Enkei RPF1 wheels and I am having trouble figuring out what offset to order. When I look at the size chart that lists the part numbers on Enkei's website they list the wheel INSET. Whenever I plug that part number into a website to order them they list the inset number as the OFFSET of the wheel. There is a big difference between offset and inset so who am I supposed to trust? If were talking about offset then I want the lowest number possible, but if were talking about the inset then I need the highest number possible.

How about call/email and ask them.
Or order from somewhere that has what you want.

Although it's titled as inset, they mean offset. Perhaps you are thinking of backspacing.

Enkei has no phone number to call and no email. The only option I could find was to message them and wait for a vendor near me to reply. Ive tried twice in the past month and have received no replies.

On some of their wheels the chart says "offset" on others it says "inset." They are two different measurements I dont see why they would use the two interchangeably.

Inset is the same thing as offset. It's just an uncommonly used term.

This is what i was going off of: http://www.ggmfg.com/Products/WheelH...setOutset.aspx

This makes it seem that you need a smaller offset to bring the wheel away from the suspension or a larger inset to bring the wheel away from the suspension.

Im looking for a lightwieght 17x8 wheel that will fit on my S13 without running spacers. From what Ive read if Enkei's chart is actually listing the offset their 17x8 wheels wont work. I read that I need a +30 or lower offset to fit and they only offer a +35 as their lowest option. That doesnt seem right because there are so many 240s running RPF1s with no wheel spacers. I just dont want to make a $1200 mistake and waste time. Autox season is just around the corner.

hrmmmmmm. one of the most common aftermarket wheels, with dozens and dozens of shops who stock this exact wheel, and dozens and dozens if not hundreds of sets sold on this very site, and you can't figure out "hey, I can see 372 threads for +18 offset, or +22 or +45, maybe those are the offsets they come in, and oh look at that! it EXACTLY matches the chart on the enkei website"...... smdh

+15, +38 +47 are all I have seen on 18s iirc. 17s might have the same spec.

Yea its all the same. People use different terms. I've always known it as backpacking till that hellaflush scene came out and people kept saying offset. Lol

Just so that everybody's clear, backspacing and offset are different measurements.

Buy higher offset + if your not sure on fitment. That way you can always use spacers to push the wheel outwards.
17x9.5 +22 works well for the enkei's on a stock body.
Look at the fitment whore thread. Lots of good do's and do nots in there.

derass is on the money though. backspacing is from the inside edge of the barrel and offset is from the centerline of the wheel.

Backspacing is a silly American thing, like inches and gallons and degrees Fahrenheit.

Back spacing is important to understand clearing suspension parts and inner body work.

+15 7" wheel and +15 12" wheel are not going to fit the same because they are +15.

I would say something like "anyone who thinks a 7" +15 would fit the same as a 12" +15 is retarded", but then I remembered I'm on zilvia and we have threads like this one.

Obviously you need to know backspacing to figure out whether your Draglites will fit on your sick new solid spool drag axle and clear the NOS tanks.
