Question Battery/alternator dying problem.

I'm new here.

I have a 92 s13 w/ sr20det. A few weeks ago my battery started dying while driving. Took the battery and the alternator to get tested-both were bad. So i bought a new battery and a new remanufactured ka alternator from autozone and put them in. Car ran fine for about 3 miles then all the power starts to fade again(stereo flickers, lights dim, car eventually dies) I'm stumped. Ive checked all the fuses and they are good. Could possibly be wiring but it looks okay. Can anybody help me???

Also, I've never seen the battery light come on, but the brake like flickers sometimes and my passenger side blinker blinks really fast.

Have you rechecked the alternator. Autzone parts are known to be bad.

Double check all power & grounds, then pull the alt and have it re-tested. Also check your battery voltage at idle- should be about 14.4 - 14.6 VDC.

Sometimes, with SR-swaps, the alternator charging circuit is not properly connected if the person who did the wiring didn't know what they were doing... If you've had the car awhile, this prolly doesn't apply...

A faulty ground from the battery can easily cause this.

Okay, I'll check all the grounds and have the alt retested. It may hve gone bad already. It was charging when i first put it on, but it stopped charging after about 10 miles of driving. Could something be causing the alternator to die? I dont have subs or anything either. Thanks for the help.

^^Yes, a bad ground or a short elsewhere in the electrical system.

+1 for a bad ground.

Also when I hardwired my alternator "fuse" my e-brake light would flicker a lot. The car never died, but I only did it for a day waiting on the new fuse to come in.

Fixed the problem. Found some sketchy wiring so I did what I could to fix that. The new alternator I bought also went bad so I got another one. So far everything is working properly.

i was having similar issues and eventually realized my alternator belt had broken and fallen off so the battery was getting charged and my car would slowly drain itself. make sure the belts are good and the proper tightness
