Custom metal arch thread

IF there already is one i cant find it

Looking to do some metal work on my newly acquired 180. Inspiration, ideas and techniques would be good to see...

Heres the kind of thing im thinking of, this is a quick mock up to get ideas of the dimensions of the sheet i need to cut:

Untitled by ezza_9000, on Flickr

Untitled by ezza_9000, on Flickr

obviously i cut the template too short, and il probably be mounting higher up but i just wanted an idea of where to start, if anyone has any pics, tips or ideas feel free

Those last two are well done. See how the flare itself isn't just flat, it's slightly convex? The little lip on the outer edge is key too.

I need this in my life so much. I need that edge that drops down like the second set of pics you posted Ezza.

This thread was about stock metal but Knoop posted some gold in here:

Just had a quick look through that, he did some supreme work with those arches, if mine weren't rusty i would be seriously considering trying that.

I know what your saying about the drop down lip but i saw a white 15, i cant find the pic now, but it had sharp edged flares, looked so fucking good.

If anyonw knows the onw i mean, its japanese and was on white concave cr kai, 18 or arguably 19"

Flares look weird and out of place on any car made after 1988, no matter how properly they are made.

I would give anything to have stock unmolested fenders again. Except a lot of money.

i agree to a degree, but with arches as rotten as mine its a option looking very appealing, i can fit retarded sized wheels with the robustness of metal not fibreglass

also if executed well they do look amazing imo

I'm doing similar but on a four door. Made a template then a jig out of timber. If you make your template, then add 10mm onto the lip, put it in a jig with the 10mm hanging out to bash it down 90degrees, then take it out of the jig and bash it all the way over and it forms the flare for you.

That looks pretty smooth, Andrew.
What thickness material did you fashion those flares from?
Could you display a picture of the jig that you created?

Cheers

Good craftsmanship, horrible styling. Those fenders would work on many cars but they don't work on something as boxy as a WRX.

That S14 is hot dog though.

See I was going to post up those exact overs! That makes way more sense than round flares on a car design wise. The round flares interrupt the body line. The boxy ones match the whole body. The paint and other stuff is nicer on the grey car though. The craftsmanship on it is top notch for sure. I just think he went the wrong direction. Makes the car look like it's trying to hard.

Its like the E30's. They are boxy. Round flares would look wack on it.

The Morocco Mole neon yellow car has some of the best arch work I've seen on a Nissan sports vehicle.

I imagine much time and effort is invested in to fitting and blending the added on flare.
