“Flex Your Bottom Mount Setup” Thread

Shoot me if something like this already exists, but I’ve seen a GTX thread, a 2871r thread, I think an EFR thread somewhere, but this is for all that bottom mount, t25, “stock looking” 4 cyl goodness.

Really I just want to brag. Last Sunday My SR made 492 whp on a dynapack at 19 psi with the following mods:

CP 9.5:1 comp
Eagle rods
Tomei 256 poncams
Tomei expreme manifold
Custom 3” exhaust
CX fmic
EFR 6758
ID1050x
Walbro 485 @ 55 psi base fuel pressure
PowerFC D jetro
Oh, and e85

I had to do a handfull of stuff to get the efr to fit bottom-mount, like clearance a part of the block with a die grinder, but aside from that it wasn’t anything too groundbreaking. Also it will easily break 500 if I had a better fuel setup. Onto some pictures! The dyno graph shows wastegate (12 psi), low boost (14 psi), medium boost (17 psi), and high boost (19 psi).

So YOU'RE the one who grenade 3rd gear on first drive!! Juan says hi

P.S
I did this install a few years ago. Have since moved on to bigger and better things

How-to/tutorial: Installation of EFR 6258, 6758 and 7163 on SR20DET

Made 300WHP on 12 psi with zero timing added. Essentially a cleaned up base map. Thing was a riot!
6758
Stock manifold
3"
Nismotronic
Decapped 850 side feed
Basic setup.

damn. impressive. 492 whp is probably the highest I've ever seen from 2.0 L bottom mount SR.

425 whp was about the highest I'd seen before. I think your extra 70 whp came from the E85. And maybe some EFR efficiency.

Textbook low power KA-T setup. Kinda ghetto in spots, but it's been good to me.

Does a stock SR20 run a scavenge pump? Why would anyone need to run one jumpman?

Awesome numbers paco!

Aiming for a similar setup but with a ve head. I know its not needed but i got it for cheap and it should be more reliable.

i have no idea, I don't own a 240 or a SR; that is why I am asking. Ive always figured that you would be fine due to the oil constantly pushing it out of the CHRA and as long as its not below the pan, gravity should take over.

HOWEVER, I have seen plenty of guys run scavenge pumps on bottom mount setups that were still above the pan; some even going as far to say it was an 'absolute must'. I think they were playing it safe. just curious.

A Nissan bottom mount turbo setup doesn't put the turbo under the engine or anything.

The turbo is still half-way up the engine, and the oil drains into the block above the oil pan. So gravity just does it's thing.

fwiw, I ran this setup on one of my mr2's for a few months without any smoking or oil issues. As you can see, that was really low. The drain fitting on the turbo was just above the oil pan.
Tried looking for a better picture but it seems photobucket has stoled all of our pictures for ransom...

Wow haha this thread actually got some traffic.. I think it's awesome to see everybody's setups floating around here, and I think its exciting that just 5-10 years ago you had to go top mount to make big power with a relatively small displacement 4 cyl. Injectors, engine management, turbos, coatings, fuels, tuning, etc have all leapfrogged so quickly recently I wanted to see what kind of power a motor would make using an old recipe with modern components.

Thanks! Yeah I'm sure a huge amount came from the E85. My last setup was an s15 turbo on 18 psi tuned on 91, and while it (320 wheel) was quick, its a night and day difference between that setup and my current one.

No scavenge pump here, I'm sure on a massive turbo that requires an insane amount of oil feed it might be needed, but with only a -3 or -4 feed there's not too much volume to get backed up. My oil drain is weeping a little bit though.

He's currently 5 minutes from willow springs if he stops at all the lights and stop signs.

Just a regular 2.0 S14 motor for the time being. It makes 380/370 (I think).

4 years strong! If/when this motor lets go, an SR will definitely be on the list. Grats on those numbers. That's insane for a bottom mount haha.

Was running 17PSI.... needed it for more track duty so didn't want to run it 21 PSI which is closer to its sweet spot....

Then blew the motor cause of a coolant leak under the intake manifold..... Now went freddy to clean that up.

Been debating for a long time.

Thanks for your insight.
