Hey Guys,

Just curious what does it take to convert my manual door locks to power locks? My car is a 1997 base and they didn't come with power locks.

You can get aftermarket actuators on ebay or whatever and get power locks pretty easily.

I want a factory setup.. it actually doesn't even look hard as per FSM electrical diagram. It looks like the smart entrance control unit does all the work, just need wiring, switches, and door lock actuator. I just want to confirm that this is the case.

does anyone know if the body harness inside the cabin that connects to the door harness is any different?

So the smart entrance control unit might be a problem. I will be using relays to make this happen.

From experience, Power Lock door handles are a major pain in the ass to remove without breaking or tweaking. I have never reinstalled power lock handles, so I cannot comment on that.

Also, there could be an easy way I don't know about, in that case, hopefully another member can help you out!!

I gotchu guys don't worry. I'm buying power doors with all the wiring I need. There will be some testing and splicing of the original harness to make the power doors work, but other than that I should be golden !

My roommate and I added power door locks to my 96 base model and it mostly works like OEM. The difference is that the key will not unlock both sides while holding it turned in the cylinder. I purchased power door lock harnesses and tied/spliced them in together using some relays. Works well, and I'm sure once I attach an alarm system to it, I have the potential to unlock from a distance. If I can, I will see if I can find the rough wiring diagram we created.
