Here's a link to an ebay page.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymot....>Notice the decription for the steel air filter. It mentions foam saturated with oil. Then air distorting cells, drawing dirt deeper into the filter, and stainless steel airflow is reduced as cells become blocked, and then "turbulent filtered air." That is the K&N description of foam air filters that they put on the back of their box. On a K&N filter, it says GOOD things then a "straight filtered air." Anyway, aside from complaining about copying a negative description and changing one word, (in the bottom, they change foam to Stainless Steel.) has anyone tried them? It is only $20 on ebay, and CLAIMS more airflow than a cotton Gauze K&N. -Jeff (Edited by Jeff240sx at 1:42 pm on Aug. 11, 2001) |

One thing that sticks out to me is the that there is nothing mentioned about the life expectancy of this filter--does it have to be replaced or does it last the life of the car, like a K&N? A K&N is guaranteed for life--never has to be replaced, and if it does (and you still have your receipt), it is replaced for free--that's a good quality product.
I have heard many, many good things about K&N, but I've never heard anything about Tradesonic (never even heard of them). If this air filter costs $20 and has to be replaced, it would be MUCH more cost effective to get a $50 K&N and never have to replace it. Just my .02, though;) (Edited by 96SEChick at 44 pm on Aug. 11, 2001) |

stainless steel should last long..... but in terms of filtering out dirt and stuff...... it might be better to stick with the other stuff..... but 20 bucks.....? i might give it a try and see what happens..... but i dunno.... right now i need to find RIMS!

I'm not looking for an air filter, I have a Injen intake with the cold air extention. It comes with a K&N
My questions were because the stainless steel just came up on Ebay, then I saw one at a performance shop nearby. It just came out of nowhere. I was critiquing (sp?) the fact that most of the description was mostly negative on the ad, and the fact that it is a 3" replacement. I wanted to know if anyone used it and what difference they felt. I think they claimed around 40 more CFM of air. -Jeff |

Very cheap looking IMHO. I would stay away, but its so cheap it might be worth a shot. Of course that was sold with the filter only. You still need an adapter to the MAFS.

Really? It's better throttle response? I'll keep that in mind for when a rock or something crashed into my K&N on the bottom the the CAE.

You would need a mounting bracket that hooks up to the MAF sensor. I don't know if it comes with one. Also, there will be some work to do. You have to take off the scoop thing under the hood, the y-pipe, the resonator, and the air filter box. These are easy. The most important thing to know is that you need a MAFS mounting bracket.
