Testing Waters: Not your average Hyundai Tiburon...
Hello everyone. I know this is a little strange for this forum, but this car is something that most 'regular folk' just can't appreciate. I know its FWD. I know its a Hyundai. Make all the jokes you want about either/both obvious facts.
So lets get to brass tax on the car... Its a 2007 Hyundai Tiburon SE. 81,xxx miles on the chassis. The original engine failed (piston ring melted on cyl 3) and was replaced with a tested engine from Florida. Why Florida you ask? I found a good deal on a warrantied motor form a yard that actual compression tested the engine. It was advertised as having 73,000 miles on it and when I receieved the engine, everything looked in order. I swapped it myself in my shop in about a week after my 9-5 job. Everything went very smooth and the engine started right up first time and it has never looked back. This engine comp tested 195-200 across all cylinders (195 is OEM spec, so she is healthy). Quite honestly, this engine 'feels' better then the original. The car saw 1 owner before me and was 100% stock when I purchased it form Carmax (gross, I know. We all make mistakes). What the car has: Alpine Stage 2 Supercharged. Dyno sheet shows 268WHP and 240WTRQ. The stock V6 puts out about 155whp (terrible! probably why the car didn't get popular, lol) so it has come a long way. It pulls nice and hard all the way through. The troque curve is absolutely lat after about 3000rpm, so a LOT of usable power. It is running a 2.8 inch pulley, 310CC injectors from the V6 Sonata, intercooled (water to air) and the blower is a Eaton MP62 (used commonly in OEM applications, also used in Miatas, civics, etc. Very popular and common SC for small engines). BTRcc Custom Dyno Tune. Please look them up...they are THE BEST tuners for Korean cars in the country. In fact, the gentlemen that tuned my car flew out form Korea. AEM Methanol/water injection kit. Spraying 50/50 to keep temps down (and NOT melt rings this time around!). Works perfectly...I use VP methanol mixed with distilled water....never any problems. Ark NII exhuast with custom quad tips and a muffler delete. The car sounds simply clean as fk. Small displacement V6s/V8s are infamous for having an amazing sound and this is no exception. Make no mistake though, you won't offend your neighbors. Car as ALL cats (yes, all 3) so it isn't alarmingly loud or obnoxiously smelly. Injen Short Ram Cold Air intake (yeah I know, wtf kind of intake is that right?) Well its a hybrid. It sits behind the headlight of the car, so it puts it further out of the bay then a short ram, but it doesn't put it in the fender/wheel well like a cold air. Clutchmasters Stage 1 clutch and 11lb flywheel. The car revs quick and the clutch grabs. Only about 20k miles on this clutch setup. Suspension: KYB struts on Megan Racing springs. Drops the car about 1.3 inches all around. If its not low enough for you, sorry. Didn't really want/need coils and I really don't like scrapping my lip or bumper (which still happens occasionally) so I didn't see the need to go lower or coils. There is about 20k miles on this setup...plenty of life left. Ralco STS with KYB shifter cable and shifter base bushings. Other then that, its mostly minor aesthetic mods. Headunit, wheel spacers, lip, tint, etc. If you want any more details about the car, I'd be more then happy to answer questions. I know this isn't everyone cup of tea, but I guarantee you this is not your average Tiburon! Will entertain offers for purchase or trade. I still owe on the car, so I'd rather sell and pay off and take whats left over as a down payment rather then trade...but I'm still open to looking. I do not have a price in mind for the car, but anything under $9,500 will just be ignored. I probably wouldn't even accept that for the car...but please don't message me and say "But its a hyundai, so how about 2K?". Again, I'M TESTING THE WATERS. My wife and I are exploring financial options at the moment and I may sell the car to free up some cash, or I might keep it because I love sexy Korean things. Thanks for looking! VIDEO OF THE DYNO. Thanks man! Sorta what I was going for, hence the minimal exterior changes except for sublte things.
Just ADDED some Mirimoto AEs this weekend and some HIDs to match. Will snap a new picture right now. Front end is looking mean. Any offers? |

Back up to the top!
Taking the car to Hyundai dealership mechanic who is a buddy...he is going to look it over. It is not scheduled for service, but I noticed a very very small amount of PS fluid on my garage so I am taking it to him for a check up. I will be doing everything that he reccomends so that it will have a 100% clean bill of health. Ready for the 1/8, 1/4, or even some Adams Track/Willow Springs action! Also, putting Brembo (13.4inch) BBK on it soon....price/value will obviously go up |

Bump it up. Getting some work done to the car by a Hyundai mechanic. New high pressure power steering line (pin hole leak) and also a new slave cylinder. I told the mechanic I want the car track...so it will be ready to rock!

Bring up this post! Still sitting in my garage...come check this thing out. Lots of fun and is unique. Just had an STI owner compliment that car when I filled up the tank. He said it sounds unlike anything else he has heard!

Thanks. We'll see what happens. KBB for stock is 7k...that SC setup is 4400, 1000 exhuast, 500 suspension, 1200 clutch, etc...you know how it works.
10k is a good price for it. I already have had a few offers close to it, but couldn't quite work out a deal. |

Going to be heading back to my mechanics for some more work. I noticed a bit of grease on the floor, so I'm going to have him replace the passenger axle, as well as take a look at the rack and pinion to make sure its okay. Will also be dropping the transmission and upgrading the clutch. Clutch still works fine, but I'm going to up it to a Clutchmasters FX350 and also install a new flywheel insert while we are in their.
Price will go up, but you'll never have to worry about the clutch for a long time....unless you don't know how to drive standard trans properly, haha. |
