Is there only 1 type of blacktop s13 wiring harness?

I am going to replace the wiring harness on my blacktop swap. redoing all the wiring and just dont trust that the previous owner hasnt hacked into the harness or switched things around make it run .. the car had an automatic ecu in it when I got it. I got a aem ems and hooked it up with the blacktop base map and it dont run. My question is .. are there more than one type of wiring harness available for the blacktop s13? Ive been told my motor is a late model 180sx blacktop. 96 - 98? .... Ive never really been able to tell exactlly what year blacktop it is ... is there an easy way to tell? I got the serial # off my block but have never been able to reference it against anything.. Anyway I was just wondering if I could get any wiring harness for a manual trans s13 blacktop?

pic of my motor for reference..

thanks for any help!

Well, for the S13 chassis, there are 3 sets of ECUs. Redtop S13(90-93) came with 62/63 numbered ECU. First set of Blacktop S13s (93-96) came with E5 ECUs but everything was the same between these and Redtops. You can swap harnesses and ECUs around with no detrimental effect. Now the latter S13 Blacktops came with J4 ECUs, engine had some changes including the pinout on the harness. If you plug in a 62/63 or E5 ECU into a J4 harness, only #1 cylinder will fire. You will have to do some repinning to make it work.

thanks for the replies everyone.. much appreciated.

soo.. im going to pick up a standard blacktop wiring harness.. might be a stupid question but ... is there such thing as a knock off wiring harnes? There is a guy on ebay selling blacktop wiring harneses new for 200 shipped.. 100+ less than ive seen them anywhere else.. im not one to usually buy anything for my car that isnt oem.. but I just wonder if it might be an aftermarket wiring harnesses.

jdm planet is aka osaka jdm motors.

They are good people do do business with. Allot of the parts they sell however are brand new parts, but parts like what you would get from autozone, checker, oriley's, pepboys ect.

They are jdm parts store parts.

I have never got a harness from them but I have got other things from them and it has always been good.

I know their ignitor chips are great and cheap too! They are good to do business with.
