The 2080ti scales surprisingly well in those tests. I'd really want to see how well it does in more games and 3440p.

If it is 15% more the let’s see...

I used the guru3d benchmarks from the 2080ti review. 15% would make the 680 around a fury card. Below the 1070 most of the time but sometimes equal or better.

Hard pass.

That's even more depressing than the 2080. I hope amd will finally step up with Navi come 2019 or 2020, although I wonder if they as a company are even interested in competing with high end gpus.

2019. Vega 3. Navi. Low ram. Agreed. Sounds like a build year.

i got to disagree on jim on the last comment.

amd has shifted priority aka navi to console. which can have more upside than battling head on against nvidia.

game devs can optimize amd hardware better. hopefully amd can get this right.

So the 9 series just about buried the Ryzen series. Unless you need the 8 cores of the 2700x for non gaming. It makes no sense vs the 9600K.

9900k doesn't make a lot of sense from a value perspective, especially its used mainly for gaming. No good reason to take that over even cheaper coffee lake chips I think. 2700x is solid value and I like what amd is doing here.

^^^Agreed on the 9900k but I was talking about the 9600k

https://www.guru3d.com/articles_page...review,21.html

For example. The 9600k at 1080p (the resolution most people play at) it dominates the Ryzen series.

The 96000k is $270 right now. From a pure gaming stand point it makes more sense than the 2700 and 2700x.

Oh i don't disagree which is why i said there's no good reason to take the 9900k over cheaper coffee lake chips. from all an all out gaming chip at 1080p and 1440p the 9600k is hard to beat at $280.

2700x is pretty unbeatable for the extra cores, and still solid gaming for similar price (not sure if it's still $320). To me it's a considerable improvement over the 1800x, especially value & gaming. Depending on one's preferences both chips hit a sweet spot.

Still can't beat the clock speeds on the Intel stuff for gaming. The only thing it's got going for it.

9900k is just for people that are BMF.

I was strongly considering going to a 2600x from my 4690K, but the 9600K makes way more sense now.

I'd really be curious how users are cooling overclocked 9900k. Seems like there are a lot of other expenses to consider other than price of the chip alone.

When you have the money for a 9900k, you got the money for some good cooling. You don’t buy a 9900k if you are on a budget.

^this.

In addition, if you were a gamer that had a history of being a competitive person, you want zero lag and the best "LAN" feeling when you play online. You can even stick with the 8700k and be fine but as a competitive gamer, you dont want that lag.

For me, my computer is way over due (im still on a x58 board; ASUS P6X58D Premium) and I upgraded from a 930 to a x5670 this year and upgraded from 6gb of memory to 16gb. My comp feels fine for multitasking and running heavy CPU applications but for gaming, my video card lacks (gtx960). I plan on picking up a gtx 1080 from a buddy and see how my PC runs but if it feels sluggish, I will definitely be upgrading.

Current games: CSGO, PUBG, BF5 (mainly for the story), and assetto corsa (interested in the VR play). BO4 seems fun but I have a feeling the hype will die out quickly.

I'm curious about how people plan to cool oc 9900k's. the aio used on that test was a pretty decent $140 corsair aio and still it ran 90f.

To spend $200 give or take on a quality aio is one thing. To have to go open loop because aio's don't cut it is quite another category of expense and maintenance.
