i got a dmax and it seems to be ok in the rain,
if your driving you will be fine, or parked for short time, but i'm not down with leaving it out over night or longer with big rain storm, the vents can get lots of water puddles fast and pour into the engine bay

I was actually curious about this as well. I guess water gets up there anyway when driving during a rain. It cant be good to have water pooling up on your valve cover though.

Anyone that drives during rain with these hoods chime in please?

I have a vented hood, and the worst I've ever had is squealing belts on start up... but it goes away after a few seconds. In winter / snow my hood came with a "rain guard" that fits in place under the hood and covers up the vents. I used to use that when I daily'd the car in the winter. Now she sits in a garage when she isn't driven so no worries

I guess if you were too worried, you could just tape up the vents with 3M painter's tape...

lol, people are worried of the valve cover?

I'd worry about the distributor or ignition system or any other wires. Spark plug leads usually work well because they are the 'beefy' wires. But if you get anything wet inside lets say a distributor, no start!

They are fucking the wicked witch and are afraid of water.

If you have a a car with coilpacks just make sure you have the coilpack cover on.

I washed all my cars engine bay and never had a problem.

Put hood on, don't worry.

Done.

Anyways, the vents are towards the front of the engine. Somewhere between the radiator and the 1st cyl.

Nothing will happen.

/done.

Dousan is 100% correct

The last vent dumps rain water right after the fan shroud.

But you can avoid the whole problem by driving faster!!!.....j/k

As long as the belts are fresh and everything is taught, there shouldn't be any squealing. None of my S-chassis' ever squealed.

do you think they "bench" the dmax cars when it rains? LOL. man com'on now. your car will run just fine as long as your alternator and air filter isnt submerged in water. why do you think offroad die hards have snorkles? and even still with alternators, some can withstand a lot of water.

I have a dmax hood on my silvia and its totally FINE.
Have drove it in POURING rain and done everything and never had one problem with it.
Its just water I dont get it?
Do you guys never wash your engine bay?
A couple vents lets in a lot less water then pressure washing your engine.
The only thing that pisses me off is when im washing my car I can never get the water out of the vents no matter how hard I try there is always a puddle created in every vent. And then i start to drive and it fliess alll over my car.
Conclusion....
NO PROBLEM

No they don't

Just put any waterproof material over the hood

You could tuck it under the edges of the hood to hold it down
