Un-tint (un-Smoke) these tail lights?
i bought these tail lights a few weeks ago, i was un-aware buying them how dark the tint Was on them and i am not too keen on it.
currently have them up for sale, but if that falls through is there anyway to remove the Tint off the glass? i think i could use Celluse thinners, but i dont want to damage the Lense, or would the plastic be tinted right through? i also know another option is to take clear covers off some cheap lexus style lights, and swap the covers, or just buy new lights :P anyway anyone have any input its appriciated. |

If it's tint, I just removed all the tint off my windows with a $25 clothes steamer from walmart. It took a majority of the glue with it as well, what was left was removed easily with rubbing alcohol. If it's paint then what these other guys said, I guess......

When I restore headlights/tailights I use 1000 grit/ 1500 grit / 2000 grit to get the yellow off or in your case the black tint, then take some polishing compound found at autozone and buff it a few times, this will make them look back to brand new, purchase some t1000 uv protectant clear coat and voala back to original.Wont take much time or money.

make sure it`s tint. rub a little on a spot that cannot be seen when the trunk is closed. if it does not rub off, the whole lens material might be smoke colored, in which case, your stuck with it`s color.

Cheers for the info guys, they came from the factory that way so im thinking that the plastic lense is smoked right through, it would nearly be worth to rub with sandpaper a little to see if it comes out, i know it will buff right up again.

you really need to figure out if its outside or inside, then if its flim or spray. you can tell by looking and touching. if its flim use a hair dryer and heat it up, and take a razor on the corner to lift it up and pull it off. if its sprayed on rubbing alcohol , brake cleaner, or paint thinner will take it off, but don't get it on your paint
but by the pictures it looks like its inside, made from factory like thay |

Lol. Most of these suggestions are horrible. Never put paint/ lacquer thinner or any harsh solvent on a plastic, it will haze... and gasoline??
Your tails look like tinted dmax style, which would be part of the plastic unfortunately. Best way to have tinted tails would to buy regular tails and just tint them, that way you can choose how dark you'd like the tint. Sell yours and buy clear ones. Save yourself a headache. |

Why talk shit on a method if you haven't tried it. I have fixed many horrible tint jobs with gasoline on a rag and wiping and scrubbing for a few minutes.

Because its a stupid liquid to use to clean anything. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. You seem like the kind of person that'd use it for everything. The kind of person that'd be on the news for burning down a house and burning 95% of your body because it left your kitchen floor clean.

Well this is escalating Quickly, i split them Yesterday and the plastic was tinted right through, so rather than mess with them i have sold these and have bought a pair without tint, when they arrive i am just going to buy the lightest tint film i can find and see how they come out.
Cheers for the advise. |

You all have your opinion and that's fine. I'm just saying get that idea out of your head that gasoline WON'T work. And put it in a dixie cup? LMAO it won't eat through taillights are you dumb? your putting it on a paper towel and wiping the tint off not pouring gallon after gallon onto the lights. Get real. Typical zilvia always reminding me why the community on this site is top notch.

I can use a 24mm wrench as a hammer...doesn't mean I should or tat it was meant for that, or that it's the best tool for the job.
I think that's the point they're getting at. Along with chemical reactions to the plastic. Unfortunately, I tried these tactics on my tail lights as well (except for the gasoline) but it didn't work. I think I am just gonna post up a wtt/wts ad as well. |
