2jzgte vvti will not stay running

Hopefully someone here might know, went to try and post on a supra site but you need 100 posts

Ok I just installed the engine and it will only run for about two seconds. But if I unplug the MAF it will run fine i'm sure it throws it in limp mode and runs pig rich but it runs. I have no clue whats wrong and the MAF is brand new so im trying to figure this thing out.

Any help would be great,

Have you tried a different maf?
Checked wiring to the maf?

Is the maf correct for the ecu? as in, aristo motor, aristo maf.

Check ecu for codes, check for vacuum leaks/boost leaks(haha maf), timing good?

Does it run with foot on the gas? How are your vacuum lines hooked up?

Definitely sounds like the wrong maf or bad wiring. If the maf is connected and returning an incorrect value the ecu is probably cutting fuel and it stalls out. Also which 2jz? IF its the JDM arristo gtte it has a MAP sensor as well which could be acting up. For whatever reason those engines run a MAF on the turbo intlet and a MAP on the intake manifold.

It is a aristo engine so yes it has a MAP and MAF

If its swapped in a different chassis how can I check codes? I have not tried another MAF yet because I don't have one. Wires look good on the plug end of the harness, its a wiring specialties harness.

There should be a blue plug near the ecu on the specialties harness. Jump those 2 pins, should make the check engine light blink for codes.

Checking codes is on the ecu, has nothing to do with chassis.

First question, is the motor completely stock or is it modified?

Stock ECU?

I tried to run my VVTi motor with just a single on it, with stock ECU. It just doesn't work with the stock computer. I ended up buying 1000CC injectors and MegaSquirt 3 Pro.. Certainly not the cheapest solution but it ended up solving my issues.

Shouldn't matter with single at idle though.

Yes stock ECU,

But thats odd I have seen many people run a simple single setup at low boost and be just fine. And yes it should idle and run and thats the first step lol.

Also what are the chances of a brand new MAF being bad?

What's the part number on the maf you got? I assume the engine place didnt supply you with one. We can try to search that you have the correct part number.

So far in searching, if the maf is the wrong part number, it won't work correctly.

My car did idle just fine with the single but it would just continually lean out (max out the AFR gauge).

Those are a couple of threads worth reading. Did you check for codes? Check vacuum lines and all that?

Big Thanks for helping me out guys,

I finally got the car running. I was just about to order another MAF but being a DENSO,TOYOTA part figured it was more likely my fault. There were two problems acually I did not know that the intercooler pipes had to be hooked up. Im in the middle of the swap and wanted to make sure the engine was ok befoure I went any further incase I had to pull it back ok so I just rigged them up.

Other problem is the intake pipe that was made in china well they welded the flange in backwards.

Thanks again,
