s14 tails staying on

so on my s14 the tails are on (but dim) when the key is on. When I switch the lights on, they get brighter. When I hit the brake pedal they get even brighter. I have looked and there are no breaks in the wires going to the tails, What could be causing this?

Possibly a bad brake switch. It's a small switch directly behind the brake pedal in the footwell. Below is a link explaining what could be happening. Hope this helps.

Happened on my S13 so not sure if S14 is the same but, like the clutch pedal has a small rubber grommet to press the switch to start the car. My S13 also had a small rubber grommet to press the brake switch. Might want to check that as well.
