There is no doubt it's poor business ethics on their end. There are a number of things they could have done to inform customers of their absence, but who knows why they haven't returned your email (at least). And I would be upset if I were in your situation (and I have been with another shop - similar reasoning for the delay). Hopefully they'll compensate for the delay to keep your business.
