I had no idea about the pistons being different until recently. I'm guessing they have to have valve reliefs due to the lift..

OP, I agree that if your stock engine has been taken care of and you don't plan on making any huge numbers then stick with it and buy bolt ons.

For <400hp I would not do anything more than a head gasket and studs. Maybe replace the main bearings if I thought the engine had a lot of mileage.
