Just for the sake of information, I found in the FSM that the shim (flat, circular spacer) faces the front of the engine on the intake side, and the rear of the engine on the exhaust side (from what I can gather, but this should be correct).

My plan is to install the shim/guides correctly, check the lifters one more time to make sure the shop bled them properly, turn the crank pulley an inch back to TDC, install the cams with the chain links lined up, and hope for the best- unless someone posts up in here and tells me NOT to do so and why.
