the limit on Japan cars is 25 years to meet US requirements. After 25 years you can then import any car you want from Japan into the USA. There are people trying to get this number reduced from 25 years to 15 years through legislation. I am all for it then you could buy a DOT exempt skyline from Japan for what ever they sell for in their home market plus transportation fees to USA.
You can already do that on Japan marketed AE86s and mid 80s cars soon (next 5 years) early 90s skylines will be exempt from DOT certs.
