Also as for the IMS, you are just not going to find that many cars, especially under $9k or outside or race cars with the LNE IMS or the Pedro DOF system. The Pelican IMS is also a scam as it's just the crappy latest Revision OEM bearing.
My car is also a 1998, meaning it's a Dual-Row bearing and not as prone to failure as the later single row cars.

As far as paper weight potential. It's a 2.5L, Porsche sold +60,000. It's the most successful Porsche sports car by sales volume. A complete 2.5 engine is only $2,000 used.
Beyond that the Boxster uses a standard Audi/VW transmission- meaning all those VAG motors bolt to it... Including $500 junkyard 280hp 4.2 V8s.
Just fab some mounts, exhaust and wire...
