I wouldn’t call 400 a lofty goal, just one that needs to have the right stuff in the right place. IMO, it’s a fun and fairly dependable hp level for a properly built & tuned SR… key words being properly built & tuned. It can be done all day long on 93 pump gas and your engine will need to be able to breathe.
But I do agree with some of the above comments about the 300-350 hp range. Mine makes 385 on a Mustang dyno (over 400 on dynojet?) on pump gas. It’s fun as hell in boost but no fun spending most of the time in turbo lag. On the street, a smaller turbine with faster spool is way more fun. I run the Tomei MX8270. Fits nicely in the stock location. But in retrospect, I almost wish I had gone with the MX7960 or a 2871, lower overall power, but much faster spool, equaling more fun factor on the street.
