I ran one for 7 years without bottom end failure...it really depends on the health of the existing bearings. My SR was extremely low mileage, which I purchased myself when I was living in Japan directly from a totaled car with only 30,000Km on the odometer. While you "should" really use a damper, there are many like myself who have run with a solid crank pulley without any issues...
