As for tread width, yes it is slightly smaller depending on what tires to which you compare them.
For example, tread width of the Federal SS595 in 245/40R17 is 218mm (per Federal Site). Tread width for a Falken FK 452 (quickest thing I could find that a lot of people have run) is approximately 223.52 mm (per Discount Tire Zone).
