RB RB26DETT in a 240sx?

Hey everyone, first post here. Now, while there may be plenty of research to look into, I'd like to know and ask a few things.

I recently picked up a 1997 240sx SE in manual, and love it. But, I want just a bit more power, and am aiming to stray from the KA24DE with something like the RB26DETT. Is it possible, and typically as easy as it is said and done? I'm also possibly looking into SR20's and even RB25's. Now, what will it take for me to have the RB26 fit into my engine bay and run perfectly? I mean, do I buy the engine, and work with a different trans? Or what? If it all possible, can someone, or everyone, give me a potential parts list of what I'll need?

For a new guy I'm asking a whole lot, but am just getting into 240's after losing my 2JZ-GTE SC300. Any wherever I look, I get conflicting info on trying to work with my new car. Any help would be great.

-Matt

Going from a 155 hp auto transmission 240 to a potentially 600 hp+ RB26 setup is hardly a "bit more power"...

This is gonna cost you over $20,000 at least by the time it's all said and done and plenty of time and energy.

And if you want 4wd, which is totally badass, it's gonna be even worse.

Good luck, and do A LOT more research then come back with specific questions

Hah, yeah. Guess I was a bit vague. I didn't realize how much it'd cost, now that I think about it. But the more I look into I it, I keep reading that for the 240, I'd need to put in an RB25 trans for it work with the RB26?

Now, when I go over price, it seems like it'd be ridiculous. Oh, and you made a not saying it was an auto trans? It' not, it's manual. Haha.

Thanks for the price estimate though. 'm probably gonna steer away from the RB and most likely drop an SR20 in.

You know, for such a great community, and me being a first time poster here, I might have been disappointed with the amount of dickishness some of you people put out, and have left, telling others how terrible this place was. Man, I'm glad I'm not that person, and I'm glad I realized that some people here, just like in real life, are retarded.

At no point in your rambling did you explain how lazy you were. Especially since this information is readily available. Perhaps had you spent the time searching for information rather then putting this useless thread together you might have answered your own questions?

So much for being nice to the new guy for a few posts and helping me out. Being a dick doesn't help someone new, it drives them away. Don't be a tool.

Easy guys...

Just drop in a SR motor, you'll save heaps of $ which can be put into a good ECU (AEM/HKS V-Pro) and along with some other goodies, Turbo, Cams, and so on. It's also easier to work on, RB's in a 240sx can be a little tight... Each to their own...

Steve.

Its sweet, and will make for one helluva ride, but cost to power, its not worth it. If you were a 2jz guy, it would be easier to put one of them in, and you will have similar power levels. Good luck.

do it if you can, it will look and sound AMAZING. If not, just build the ka.. I'm going to be pushing over 500whp with less money than I would have spent swapping in a sr20 and getting that to 500whp..

Seriously.. my next engine will be a 2jz + a nice compound turbo setup..

I forgot to mention about the 2jz. If you can't afford the rb26, a 2jz is also another great choice.. Stronger engine and more displacement than the rb26.. Parts are also much cheaper and easier to get.. I think it might also be easier to swap in..

It's not hard at all.
Need oil pan from 20/25 or mod the 26 one.
25 tranny clutch and flywheel
mount kit
drive shaft
The rest is normal swap stuff.
It can be tricky sliping it in.
Also if it's lhd mod o2 housings.
I'm doing one rite now.
Well me and krappy.
wiring is easy just a few hrs to do it.
1 or 2j is harder to do.
you can make about 400 on stock everything just need pfc and boost controller.

Here is the latest one in a s chasis and it's not a 13 or 14.
