SR Need help picking a turbo!!!!!! Please!?!?

ok guys im very new with this forum and VERY new to tuning imports. I have always been (until a few years ago) a muscle car kinda guy.....i owned 2 different Foxbody Mustangs (90 LX Hatch [drag car] and 89 GT Hatch [time attack]) an 87 Monte Carlo SS (dragracing boat lol) and then i dabbled abit with a 95 DelSol (delslo).

Anyways, long story short, i got into racing imports and rode along with someone drifting and went crazy for it!!! now......
i have an S13 that im building and im in the market for a new turbo upgrade with a budget-build mindset. I thought maybe someone on here would be able to help me figure out what i need...im looking to build a car producing around 400-500whp and i need a turbo to get me there....but with so many turbos out there i need someones help to choose one. ill throw down a list of information and mods and maybe you guys can help me.....thanks guys i appreciate any and all help.

1990 S13 240SX Fastback
1995 S14 SR20DET w/VTC motorswap
GReddy FMIC
3'' full turbo-back exhaust
APEXI N-1 pipe
close to 3500 invested in suspension (too many parts to list)
AEM Wideband EBC/Gauge
anyways, not everything but just the essentials im looking to build this baby up so help me out guys.....thanks

Well, how responsive do you want the car to be? The closer you get to 500whp, responsive and low end power pretty much goes out the window due to turbo lag.

Right now, alot of folks seems to be liking the GT3071 or 3076R. Should be more than enough to get you between 400-450whp. Only thing is, you'd have to go top mount manifold with a T3 flange. Dont bother trying to stay bottom mount T2 flange with this turbo as itll be too restrictive.

Is drifting what you have in mind with the 500 rwhp build?

I can understand putting that car on the 1/4 mile... but that much hp is way to much if you just want to learn how to slide.

you will NEED a built motor for anywhere near 500hp.

a 2871r .64 AR will get you 360ish with cams/headgasket/and luck. hahah

if your asking what turbo to get that hp...search.

im telling you what i would do because 360 is 2 times as much power needed to drift

I think a GT2871R would do you nicely, although it wont get you 500whp. I don't see why you would need 500whp for drift though, my coupe gets scary when I drift on the street and it has only 275whp.
