Brake switch is damaged or the stopper is missing from the pedal. Unplug the switch, if the lights go off then check for freeplay on the pedal, stopper engagement, or a defective switch.

Look under your dash on the driver side, its located on a bracket thats connected to your brake pedal. There is a switch with a little button that the pedal hits.(when pressed)

Just be careful not to break the connector.

You can usually adjust it (loosen) and that should do it.

hope that helps.

this is so simple, look at the brake pedal and the contact switch is bad, most likely pushed in or rusted up. this has been answered a million times.

lol everybody had this problem including me, I just electrical taped a nickel inplace of that rubber stopper and it works just right now. I put pennys before but that shit drops unless you fucking epoxy that shit. This is an easy fix, look at your break pedal then look up or follow the metal shit on the brake pedal. There should be a rubber stopper there that when it contacts to the switch, it stops the brake light. If there is a circle hole, taht means your rubba stoppa is gone.

i have af unny storry about this.

one day i was driving and i noticed some little rubber grommet thingy by my feet, and i was like what the fuck is this? where did this come from? so i picked it up and just threw it out the window....

a couple hours later at night, i was like err...why are my brake lights not turning off. a couple minutes later i was like aw shit, that's what that rubber thing was. but yeah, i just got a bolt and nut and secured it in place. brakes work. i didn't think of the nickel and tape idea thought, that's pretty interesting.

but yeah your brake light switch is the ONLY THING NEAR/TOUCHING THE BRAKE PEDAL THAT LOOKS LIKE A SWITCH. IT HAS WIRES COMING OUT OF IT AND A BUTTON.

Except for the cruise control cancel switch, if you have cruise. It cancels cruise when you hit the brakes.

I can't get a bolt in that hole. The steering column is in the way and I can't push the brake far enough from the switch.

I just got a '91 240SX and i had the same problem..its a quick fix...it took me about 5 mins total..

Go to an Auto Zone or Pep Boys or something like that and get some push pins that are made for door panels...get the BIGGEST ones you can fine...i paid like $2.50 for 6 of various sizes...

sit on the ground on the driver side take a flash light and follow the brake pedal up to where you see it flaten out to a plate...if ur lights stay on that means the rubber plug came out...

if you have cruise control there are 2 stoppers... you can find the hole for the stopper by looking at the 2 plugs connected to the brake pedal.. 1 plug has 1 wire and the other plug has i believe 3.

if you look at the pin the plug is connected thru you will see the switch that the pedal pushes...only thing you have to do is use ur hand to push the brake down as far as you can and pop the push pins into both holes...

i was able to do it after like 4 attempts... i had to do it b4 hooking up a remote start to an older car and in the process of hooking up the brake wire i popped the rubber pin out and it broke up...lol (i worked at circuit city)

good luck!
