I used that one, it works fine, if you can get a bigger tank, I didn't like how it kept turning on to frequently, I use air power tools for everything but that's just me. And all the compressors make lot's of noise

I/we have the 33 gal craftsman but do not use much because the parents trip like crazy from the noise. It just sits there!!! Its super loud but works good when we are able to use it. Extremely useful.

Also, it doesnt take long to fill up. Couple minutes, if even.

That type of compressor is shit make sure you get one that uses oil
For example a compressor with an electric motor and that is belt driven to
the actual compressor!

My dad is a carpenter and uses a compressor and hes been through a few!

EDIT: like this

I have an older version of that model. It's pretty nice, but I recommend you get 1/2" air hose instead of 3/8" for more power to your tools.

From empty, it takes maybe 10 min to fill, and if you're using it a bunch, it may run frequently. I like this one because I can wheel it around and use it on-site (or take it with me should I feel the need to). I also have ~150ft of air hose, which comes in handy.

I'd love to have one like that. I have 220v and could utilize it's potential. Unfortunately, many people do not have 220v outlets at their disposal, nor do they need such a powerful compressor. In addition, that one is designed to be bolted into place, and not portable at all. With the 33gal model the OP posted, at least it retains some mobility.

Thanks for all the input idealy it would be nice to get a belt driven since they are a bit quieter, a buddy let me borrow a 12 gallon 1 hp craftman yeah it's loud but it does not matter to much. I went on searsoutlet.com and I saw same compressor recondition for 180 so I go to the store to pick it up... But on the way over there I stoped chipotle then continued on my way to sears... Just my luck 10 min to me arriving someone bought it. Lol and the funny thing was I called to verified they had it. I'm trying to get the biggest tank, for the least amount of cash and this seems to about the right price. Now about the hose 3/8 or 1/2 woudnt it fill up faster with a 3/8? Other compressors I seen like at home depot are
about 350 and about same size. I searched craigslist but people want almost what a new one cost... Any one know any sited that poducts are discounted?

i would sell you my sears 33 gallon vertical compressor, which I barely use, for $200 since I want to upgrade to 80gallon one, but you're in Los Angeles. Maybe when I make a trip down there in a few months if you could hold off that long.

Is a used compressor, what I did was go to searsoutlet.com and look for compressors, so I bought one that was returned... But it still retains 1 year warranty so can't go wrong. But yes regular price is 329... The thing is that when a good item is posted u must buy it quick or else it would be gone. I saw the compressor I bought today in the morning and I picked it up like 1hr after I saw it. It was not posted last night when I checked. So I called and reserved it

try a gas one. Hella loud but just get a big ass muffler for it to lessen the noise. No 220 outlets and the motors are usally hella strong and durable. I had to get a 15hp 120 gallon compressor for 300$ never got it

Look for an older speedaire 120v belt driven compressor. The little units from harbor freight and crapsman are direct drive and use one little piston flailing around at a billion rpm with no lubrication. They fail under eve light use. A belt driven compressor is much quieter, runs one or two pistons at a lower rpm taking longer strokes. They are oiled and will last forever compared to a direct drive. Look at craigslist and ebay, 120v belt drive compressors are rare but they can be found.

The idea here is that the more air you have flowing thru your line, the more power your tool has.

As far as it filling up faster, that's entirely up to the compressor.

A 1/2 line will drain your tank much faster, but if you're doing stuff like filling tires, it's the same work, just done faster.

That thing is quiet compared to mine. Mine's definitely a few years old. Guy who I bought it from got himself a 120gal tank with a 10hp compressor on top. Bastard!

Usually the oil-free compressors are much nosier then their oil filled brethren.

The other major issue is the intake. A lot of the lower end compressors have a plastic intake and foam filter that does little to damp the noise of the intake valve. Better units have a screw on metal intake with a silencer filter.

Other than that it's all about finding something that matches the CFM@PSI your tools require.

I have this compressor. I've been using it since about 2003. Still works great. I find myself not using it near as much as I pictured I would.

Starter kits suck balls. The tools you get in them are junk. Ether they break or in the Crapsman case under powered.

Just buy what you need.

^^Yup. I bought a Craftsman impact gun starter kit. Came with several adapters and other air guns. It was too good to be true. "500lbft capacity"... Bullshit.. I couldn't remove the lugs from my wheels....

I have a coleman black max 60gal compressor which as been awesome for many years.

I could just barely crack lug nuts even with 140psi and whenever I tried to paint something the pressure would drop too low.
I found out the problem was the stock fittings were too restrictive. Replaced everything with high flow connectors(wasn't cheap) and have had no issues cracking bolts or painting things.
