Who are the first USA drifters?

SLIDE SQUAD, right?

They had those cars in Super Street magazine a long time ago.

wtf lol... well, I remember Andy Yen smashing it up on the mountains in his funky beige hachi-rolla way back like in 1999/2000. Bastard was freaking fast and reckless lol. Only way to roll.

Yes they REALLY did drift the civic. The guy's name was Dave as I remember, but I could be wrong. I hung out with him and Mark once, got to ride in the infamous blue coupe. That car is why I fell in love with 240's. Those guys are almost certainly the first US drifters to be publicized in any way, but I know there were others before that never got any publicity.

I would say Slide Squad was the first team that got any sort of public media attention, but they definitely were not the first.

I remember there were a bunch of guys at the original TRD office in Torrance that would drift. This is back in 1993-1994.

Also, I've seen pictures of Ito-san from WELD drifting in the U.S. when he was a race mechanic in Nascar. Although he's from Japan, he drove with some local american guys.

Open wheel racers have been drifting since the 1940s or earlier.

it was Jonny Wong. that's why people refer to drifting as getting "The Wong Way".

My vote also goes to Ernie Fixmer.

I think this is the or one of the first major drift event(s) in the US: Drift session hawaii (ross petty was apart of these events)

oh yeah, this guy is pretty old school
