the fast and good money would be nursing and dental hygiene ($80k), however you need to spend 1-2 years to finish requirements before transfer (B.S degree) (so maybe it will takes you 2-4 years). you can also have option to apply for master degrees after you are done (possibly more pay and go up faster). there are some other career fields might give you decent pay too (physician assistant, physical therapy, pharmacy, medical, dental, optometrist.....etc) , you should visit your local community college career consultation to get more information. to know what is the admission requirements and what is the career market like.

i am not sure about this but i heard radiology has been outsourcing from other countries and therefore the demand is not that high. you should go find out. i think generally the harder the admission of the school, the more secure and demand of the job.

Nursing is where its at. My wife just started nursing school, and the demand is through the roof. Alot of the baby boomer nurses are retiring, plus nurses are one of the most vital positions,if not the most vital, in a hospital. Some hospitals are giving a 10k bonus just to sign a 2yr contract. The lowest paying hospital around here pays RN's 25.00/hr right out of school.

Fastest way to a payday with one of the most relaxed and least disguisting medical jobs is Physical Therapy.

You can easily start out at 80-100K. With only 6 years of school.

here is something for you to think about

most of hospital jobs, take W2 checks and uncle sam would claim at least 30-45% of tax depend what is your tax bracket. on top of that, your student loan will also take a chunk of money (you should plan how are you going to finance your education and living expense carefully first). in essence, you will live comfortably but you are not going to be baller rich. Demands are also depend on locations, most of big cities or nice area are already saturated competitive to get a job. Remote areas are easier to get better pay and might have more opening.

how can medical be in good position right now when a lot people are out of job and couldnt afford to continue paying medical insurance? They will just suck up the pain rather than paying 5K+ of medical expenses or the choice for treatment and a heart attack that leads to a quick death by seeing their medical bills? Hospitals are losing a lot of money from people who get treated and never pay their bills. More than likely they are now asking for Federal help. gee, did you hear that couple who were hospital employees who got laid off and killed their kids for medical job loss?

You need to be good at sculpting; and having small hands is a plus.

Don't do Pharm. Worst field, PERIOD.

California is over saturated with em. But you're in Jersey, maybe its different?

Nursing, as stated above, is always in high demand. Sick sign-on bonus too.

After a few years as an RN, you could look into becoming a travelling RN. 500 per shift isn't bad at all. You do move around every 2-3 months though. But its BANK.

I disagree, pharmacy schools are harder to get in and therefore the job supply is much slower than nursing. pharmacist is PharmD degree and that is actually a doctoral degree. in contrast, RN only require a bachelor degree and there are a lot of community colleges and private career colleges out there. on top of that, they also out source nurses from other countries. my girlfriend is a pharmacy students and she does internship in kaiser while she still at school, she gets pay for $22 a hour and x1.5 times if over time. her schedule is very flexible and she has big control in how much she wants to work. on the other side, i had a classmate who is RN for 15 years and he got lay off because the hospital demand for more hours and he could not do it. Also, in pharmacy, you have technicians and clerks to do things for you, so it is definitely alot more chill than RN.

but i agree California is over saturated with every health care profession, specifically southern California nicer areas.

I have been an RN for almost 15 years now. Started in the Army. I think it's a great field to get into but it's not an easy job.

Depends on what you want to do, competition and all that shit doesn't matter when it comes to your life. Why would you decide not to go for a career because its hard to get in? If its what you actually want then you can become competitive in it.

So, why do you want to get into the medical field? That can get us started.
