I bet it's all a marketing scheme. They will discontinue it now, but then bring it back in about 10 years or so.

Kinda like the same idea that Toyota was supposed to do with the Supra, and Nissan now bringing back the 240, Dodge brought back the challenger, Mazda with the RX-7. Of course a lot of these cars are still in concepts and haven't been 100% confirmed, but who knows, I think the s2000 will obviously jump in the same category as these cars.

The S2000 only battles back and forth for the Tsukuba Time Attack Lap Record all the time...

It's a good car, but it's time for it to go anyhow.

I don't think so its sales numbers are absolutely dismal for a 10 year run. 100,000 LOL just to give you an idea Nissan sold 120,000 240sx's in the first two years. In the overall run of the car the numbers are between 225,00 and 250,00.
Hell the Miata has sold over a million in its 10 year run.
Honda is hurting right now. They pulled out of F1 completely. They sold 4k worth of S2000's last year. Its a torque less wonder. Great track engine. Not so great for street use.

The 240 isn't coming back. We may get another RWD coupe, but it won't be a 240. The S-Chassis is gone.

I have a 04 and they are great cars. It's been 10 years since the first S2000 was introduced and there wasn't any major changes since 04. They are not selling well since 05 neither. No more RWD with Honda

Honda should just stick with the D-series motors and be done with it. That damn D motor is a tank.

I couldn't give a shit about S2k's themselves but one day I will own a Corolla injected with Honda goodness and the already pricey engine just went up.

Honda doesn't need the high performance market, they dominate pretty much everything else.

The NSX is coming back.

Why did they drop it?

In my opinion it's because there isn't a huge market for them.

Sure there is a decent sized fan base, but most of them won't spring for the car.

Production costs aren't being justified by sales.

With times that we are in today it isn't worth while to buy a rwd honda two seater.

For the price most people will just save up a little more and spring for a euro car.

As I said before, most of the people buying cars don't even know the difference in feel of a fwd car vs a rwd car. So why continue to make a car just for a small niche of people?

Which is why you get a r200, and get ahold of inline performance and do the conversion. Can handle PLENTY of power that way.
I had one in a s2k i had awhile back.
there is also someone that makes a hydraulic powersteering conversion... but i cant remember who. I think they either use a FD rx7 rack or a new style Miata rack. I personally dont like the feel of the electronic powersteering myself. feels weird to me..

I am kind of glad they are going to discontinue to make them. I have seen the new prototypes and they are UGLY!

I probably will pick up a s2k within the next year or so.. They make a good daily if you gut the convertible top and put a hardtop on it. Rock the tonneau cover or hardtop and its a fun ass car.

its 10 years old and been out since 1999! they aren't going to keep it forever. last year, i asked my friend with an s2k how much longer they are going to make those cars and he said 2009 will be the last year for that generation, but he said they were coming with a second generation according to the s2k forums he frequents. don't know if honda changed its mind and scraped the 2nd gen.
