Do you ever feel like...

You are a gypsy and have no real home? Even though you may own a home? Do you ever feel like you miss one place, only to realize that you long to be somewhere else again?

I do. I missed Cali so bad, and now, I am ready to move on again. I would like to go back to Japan, but, I think I would rather live in Australia.... *sigh* I hate being indecisive.....

Gypsy, give me your tears.

I know what you mean. Being a military brat I have homes all over the world and I miss them all equally. So if I moved, I would want to be somewehre else pretty soon.

life is good.

Seriously, I think being in the Navy has spoiled me. I like the foreign countries, and loved living in them and visiting them... Cali is home, but, damn I want to roam....and I KNOW Emma misses Japan, that IS her home. It is all she knows. Kaylee was born there, Japan is pretty much my families home...aside from our parents and stuff, but between Kevin and I, I guess I feel like that is where we belong?

I have no idea how this feels. Sadly, I've lived in the same place all my life. Hopefully that will change soon though.

GL on figuring out where you want to be Lisa.

I always wanted to live in Melbourne, since my name is...Melbourne.

I don't see that happening right now though. :\

I was born in the east... lived in California for a while... now I'm back east... I hated it here when I was a kid, missed it while I was out there... now that I'm back here... I hate it and miss cali...

it's the grass is always greener on the other side syndrome... we always want what we don't have and no matter what, we are never satisfied... it's human nature.

Lame hahahaha. Ever since I watched "The Rescuers Down Under" (Disney movie), I've always wanted to live in Australia with the accent and everything. Anyone know what the cost of living is over there compared to here?

If I recall correctly, it is pretty fair. Minimum wage is the equiv. to $14 USD an hour. Taxes are a bit high, no guns (or very minimal iirc), To gain citizenship, you must have a 'profession' and I mean when I was in sydney, we rented an apartment for a week for like.... $250? That was a 3 bed, 2 bath, full kitchen balcony downtown, and furnished apt just for tourists. So I imagine that a regular apt isnt too bad.

I felt the same way about the Army...After you get a little taste of how big the world is you want to see more and more and there is nothing wrong with that.

Know almost exactly how you feel, having citizenship in 3 countries, and lived in 5 over the past few years, it doesn't feel like I belong anywhere. When I'm actually home I still feel like I don't belong there anymore

I guess I could say I am pretty content on where I am now and how I am living. The East Coast has been my home forever.

I hope one day I can start traveling and visit other parts of the country (California, Chicago, etc) and other countries (UK, Japan, Italy...).

I always though it would be cool to kind of "wander" from place to place a bit. Everyday life sometimes can be so repetitive and well, boring.

BIG E-HUG FOR LISA!!!

I know exactly how you feel Lisa.
After about 4 years in one place, I feel I have to get up and move.
I guess growing up as a Navy brat will do that to someone.

You only have so much time to live, why waste it all in one place?

Hi you are now free to roam about the world.

Seriously you guys just got back.

I know what you mean though.

After so much traveling in the Navy it's kinda hard to deal with the whole staying in one place mentality.

Shit I haven't even met you guys yet in person and you want to leave us all already.

I'm pretty happy where I'm at. There are certain things that make me feel like I'd rather be in California or Arizona (where I grew up) .. Weather mainly. My main family lives here now though, so I more inclined to stay here in Oklahoma.

My gf was born in Japan like your daughter...her mom was in the military. Neat.

Yeah, I used to live in Rhode Island...and i've been all over, but I feel pretty at home in North Carolina. There's a lot of trees...there's a lot of pretty neat people, there's usually something to do...2 hours from the beach, 2 hours from the mountains, 2 hours from legit fireworks, etc.

thats how I am, too long in one place and I feel claustraphobic. But Im going to stick it out in az to finish school, then I was thinking of australia for shits and giggles. The only thing is I kinda feel bummed out when people are like Ive know so and so since we became best freinds in jr high. I never experienced that.

Yeah, I wish people weren't forced to be so legally bound to whatever country they live in, I'd rather just travel to wherever I want to be and wherever I feel good at the time. Feeling like it's time to move on? Pack my bags and go.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about living like a hippie, I'd still like to live nicely with a decent job, but I don't care for the well being of any country, no offense to anyone but I don't feel pride or patriotism or anything, in my opinion life is too short to stick through the tough times in one place when you could be living nicely somewhere else, I'd rather make sure I and those close to me are leading a happy life, wherever it may be.

It's fun to move around, and there's no reason why you shouldn't unless you're well grounded by a good career. there's so much out there to see in the world. visiting as a tourist is one thing, but living there is a totally different experience. Its actually a very healthy, open minded attitude imo.

I plan on moving to Austin, TX next year. I've stayed in Los Angeles for 4 yrs already (4 yrs on Norcal), and I think that is long enough. Ideally, I'd like to move to Brighton, England, (laid-back beach town 1hr away from London) but its too much of a hassle. Best to do your research with the jobs avail and cost of living beforehand as much as possible though.

assuming you're a US citizen, you already have it lucky. most countries you visit don't even require a visit in order for you to get there, and those that do are easy to obtain.

Getting a work permit may be more difficult, but from what I've heard isn't difficult in most parts of Europe, and many in Asia (not sure about Japan though, I hear they are the most stringent when it comes to immigrants).

But in any case, it's easier for an American citizen to travel and work abroad most likely more than anyone else from any other country. We can't have it all, but we do have the best deal.

When my parents sold the house I grew up in and moved out-of-state, I decided to stay in the area.

I slept on my friends couch for almost 2-years. Makes you realize how nice you had it when you weren't paying rent and had it EASY!

Lesson learned, that is life.
