I recommend War and Peace and the Bible if you're into fiction.

I only like a few novels, truly. 1984, Slaughterhouse Five, Animal Farm, Fahrenheit 451, A Brave New World, and a couple others.

Everything else I read is either car-related or gun-related.

PS- Go to www.autospeed.com, then click on "Tech Features" and read everything that interests you. That'll keep you busy for at least a weekend.

yeah

i didn't really like the development of main character from a hit man into a violent revolutionary

enjoyed the near apocalyptic state of humanity though as usual but it could of gone more in depth no?

Idunno I thought it was kind of cool that the government had no one else to turn to but the lowest of the low to preserve their way of life.

Last book I finished was The Revolution by Ron Paul. I'm slowly working my way through Atlas Shrugged, but I haven't had much time.

If you like science fiction, Foundation by Isaac Asimov is great. So is I, Robot (it has nothing to do with the movie btw).

Bringing Down the House (was made into "21" the movie but the book is way better)

The Lexus and The Olive Tree is also really good.

Freakonomics (read this in like 3 days)

You want a challange???

Try reading War and Peace by Tolstoy. By far one of the most difficult books to grasp until you finish it.

last book I read through was eaters of the dead I think. Its like that movie w/ Antonio Banderes (sp?) where he hangs out w/ Vikings and fights along side them, only better. I have to say, its a little rocky to start.. but I liked it in the end. Cant go wrong w/ George Carlin "Napalm and Silly Putty" has a perment spot in the can, always good for those times when you need some reading material. lol Also good to just sit down and read. If you like Mafia type stuff, you cant go wrong with anything Mario Puzo.

If you have any interest in America (or more accurately, are a poli-sci geek)
The Great Risk Shift by Jacob Hacker - yes, it is written by a young poncey Yale professor, and yes it is rather sensationalist, but that doesnt make the observations less true. Also, seperate yo opinion of his diagnosis of 'the problem' from his proposed solution. Most of you will ignore this, oh well

Lighter Fare:
Foundation 'Trilogy' by Asimov is great
also Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson (followed by Green Mars and Red Mars)

best bet I have found is find a genre that you like, find the premiere award(s) for writing in that genre, and go down the list of winners till you find something interesting (i.e. Hugo,Nebula,Locus awards for Scifi)

Kind of...he compares crime organizations or gangs to how large companies are run and how similar each are with their levels of power, from the guy standing on the corner (retail minimum wage guy) to the head boss (ceo)

Very interesting and pretty funny while actually learning a little bit.

The Monkey Wrench Gang.
The Host.
The Stand.

I've just started on Icebound, and after that I'm thinking Atlas Shrugged.

i did a quick search and was quite surprised that no one said "The Driver" by Alex Roy. Im almost finished with it and its quite interesting. Its about his experience in the gumball rallies and how he broke the record from driving from new york to long beach, ca in about 31 hours. I forget the exact time at the moment but yea its ridiculous and its really interesting to read. Fast cars, police evasion, electronics whore, just alot of shit ppl like us would like. check it out.

Catcher in the Rye, by far my favorite, I read it once every year or two.

currently reading "the master and the margarita" by bulgakoff

just read "lord of the flies" actually for the first time, pretty good!

Before that it was "The Idiot" by doestoevsky(sp?)

"Beauty will save the world" sick line, although mishkin was such a little bitch.

Has anyone read The Wheelman by Duane Swierczynski?

I haven't found this book anywhere in town yet...I may have to place an order for it. That is, if it's good.
