In a galaxy far, far away: The Star Wars Thread

I've always been a big fan of the originals. I prefer them over the newer movies. I just love the whole story and Lucas' genius.

When the last movie came out I was happy and kinda bummed at the same time that the story was over.

Luckily for fans like myself, there is a lot on the horizon.

There's Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) which is a CG movie coming to theaters, obviously taking place during the Clone Wars. Some time after the movie comes out, this will be continued into a regular TV movie. IGN has covered it a lot: link here

Then there is the live action TV series that is coming. Speilberg says: "It's not that episodic," adding, "Some of the episodes are stand-alone and some are two, some are three, some are four [parters], and there's no cliffhangers. It's not like the current vogue of 24 and The Wire and stuff where you actually have to watch the entire series in order to understand what's going on. This is an old-fashioned episodic show." That is not scheduled to hit until 2010.

Last there's Star Wars: The Force Unleashed video game. Here's a link to some info on IGN also. I'm looking forward to this mostly because of the use of Natural Motions AI that is also featured in GTA4.

Premise: his entry in the Star Wars saga casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice", unveiling new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The expansive story, created under direction from George Lucas, is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi - and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny. As its name implies, The Force Unleashed completely re-imagines the scope and scale of the Force by taking full advantage of newly developed technologies that will be seen and experienced for the first time anywhere in videogaming.

Man, if I wasn't such a stereotypical American citizen, I'd read all the books. I wish I were alive when the original trilogy came out in theatres, because I loved those movies! When the prequel trilogy came out, it wasn't that awesome (Jar Jar killed it for me) although "Revenge of the Sith" was great because of the battles and closure it provided.

So will Clone Wars ('08) be the same as the Clone Wars animated toon released before "Attack of the Clones"?

I always thought Boba Fett was badass.

Originally, Star Wars was intended to be a 9 part story, not a 6 part story.

Lucas said midway through the prequel trilogy that he no longer intended to make the final 3 movies....but who knows. A few billion dollars can change minds.

Info:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_sequel_trilogy

I seem to recall Lucas mentioning the possibility of a sequel trilogy in one of the interviews on the original VHS THX remastered trilogy (i.e. before the "special editions" with the added effects).

I know. I recall he said he thinks he would be too old to finish all three.

But, when the last three came out no one knew anything about a TV series or a CG movie, so who knows.

I would LOVE to see three more movies.

This thread rules. I enjoyed all the movies to some extent.

I don't know why, but I've been watching the movies on spike for the last 3 weekends religiously since they started. Now it's Star Wars Sundays!?

I'm also looking forward to The Force Unleashed, but then again it might be just hype.

So far my favorite Jedi based game was Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast.

I also enjoyed Republic Commando and the Battlefront games.

I admit, I'm a closet Star Wars geek.
I love the design used in it, most of the designers went to my school and shared my major.

I've read a lot of the books, own a lot of the games, and have a closet back home filled with star wars toys.

But I'm mostly just interested in the vehicle and droid designs.

Time for me to show the dork side.

I don't want to come off as a dork.

But I will admit that I love Star Wars.

I love it well enough that when I play Star Wars questioning games I'm right about 70% of the time. Not bad I would say.

It's not religious for me, but I really do enjoy just taking a day off and watching as many episodes as I can.

It's really Star Wars and Firefly for me. Anything else remotely sci-fi I have no interest.

Yo EXITSPEED

My biggest worries about anymore star wars being done is that Lucas is a horriable director when it comes to actors.

Lucas can write, knows what he wants to see. But when it comes to actors. "faster and More intense" isnt gonna cut it. We saw this with alot of the people in the newer star wars movie.

His inability to say no to cutting edge film technology.

We saw a perfect example if this in the 2nd movie. (or was it 3rd?) When there is the romantic scene between darth vader and his babe. It was done on a green screen stage without the other actor being there most of the time. So the actors where looking at a piece of tape somewhere off camera and saying there lines. no wonder you felt no "love connection" between the 2.

Or just the overly CG distractions that the movies became.

And societys change it what they want from a story.

My girlfriend deals with this change alot. even at ZILVIA you guys are dealing with it alot. My girlfriend does video game marketing at Disney and they get LOTs of info on this all the time and have meetings about it.

Its the teenage/preteen generations problem with instant gratification. and its not a parenting issue. People arent used to waitning anymore. I want something, I google it, I tivo it, I order it over night from Amazon, I order pizza online, I want it cooked now, I microwave it, etc

So as you can tell from watching older movies, where they are story driven, and characters carry it. Todays movies have stupid stories, flashy/cheesy characters and lots of special effects and action to keep the audience interested.

Think about the first 3 star wars stories compared to how complex and character driven the original 3 were.

i just done think Lucas has succesfully made that transition, sadly.

And I'm not picking on the man, there are a few more like him. look at Zimmeckis, Even Ron Howard is struggling a little.

But I have read over 20 of the books, played the RPG, watched Droids the carntoon, downloaded the music, love Endor Adventure, have the trivia in storage back home, been luke from return of the jedi for halloween, ordered posters and lobby cards, have the box set, watcyhed episode 1 in the theaters 12 times despite Jar Jar.

Just a little disapointed with the latest movies.

I'm with yuri, I always loved the aesthetics and the designs of the star wars movies. I've always loved the movies, but that's about the extent of the depth of my interest. Haven't ever read any books, comics, watched any shows, collected any toys. I have played a few of the games and generally have been disappointed by them.

My issue with Episodes I-III (besides the acting) was that they seemed to be written with the video game in mind. There are whole sections of action that look like they pulled straight from video games, which strikes me as a little cheesy.

LOL

This site just screams "Bullshit" to me.

I mean, look at this info:

Star Wars Episode 7 vii
Full Movie Title: Star Wars Episode 7 - The Hidden Circle
Theatrical Release Date: 20 May 2021

c'mon.....2021, and they have an EXACT RELEASE DATE?!?!? I don't think so, I think this is a lot of conjecture.

I DO expect someone to make these films eventually and I don't expect it to be for a very long time, so 2021 might be realistic....but I'm sure all Lucas has for them is rough sketches and I'm certain that he won't make them himself. There's too much money in it for them to not EVER get made though, IMO.

Still a fun site to look at though, just for laughs.

Here's a crazy true Jedi story.

I the power of The Force once when I was younger. No lie.

I was about 17 I think and break dancing was my life. At the time one of the most difficult moves was a Flair. Air Flares and shit weren't even thought of at this time. Hardly anyone could do real ill flares at this time. if they did their legs were all bent, and they were not high or they tucked their legs in on the second half of the move.

So anyway, I'd been practicing them for like 3 weeks straight. No stop and I just could NOT make a full revolution to save my life. I had the first part down real well though.

One night, I popped in Return of the Jedi. For some reason the part of the movie with Yoda really got to me. I started thinking about the movements of a flare and concentrating. I pushed the table and couch away, stretched for a min.

On my FIRST attempt I made one full revolution effortlessly and almost a second! It was the Force! I swear. I felt it!

A couple weeks later I had some of the highest, smoothest, most straight legged flares we'd all seen.

Here's a vid of what a flare is for reference. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fX1IR7IM_M&feature=related[/ame]

star wars rocks. but lucas is a dumbass. the original trilogy became a classic through luck and the suggestions of people around lucas. alot of evidence points to the fact that the main plot point (i.e. vader being anakin / luke's father) was not part of lucas's original vision for star wars. seeing his work on ep 1-3 just proves it. he really has no idea how to tie a trilogy together, at least not on his own.

as for games... i started playing way back in the day. x-wing and tie fighter were my favorite games when i was like 12 years old. i stopped playing as the quality of the games dropped. favorite game ever is a toss up between tie fighter collection and the first knights of the old republic.

Shadows of the Empire frustrated the shit out of me at times.

I loved Rogue Squadron though!

On a side note, I'd love to see Dash Rendar get more exposure.

I love Star Wars. Especially the games.

I played Star Wars Galaxies for a couple of years before Sony messed it up and made it more "Kid friendly"

SWG at one point was a bigger game than World of Warcraft.

i grew up with star wars (buddy and i use to pop in the vhs' all the time). I LOVE THE ORIGINALS. episode 3 was the best out of the new films. if Lucas kept it going, i'd be watching. for sure.

i really hope they do a good job with the tv series. if it sucks (like most things lately), i'll be SUPER PISSED. it has crazy potential.
