| Zilvia.net Bot ![]() | 05-18-2009 02:59 PM Filed under: Aftermarket, Tuners, Sports/GTs, Japan, Supercars, Nissan ![]() Nissan GT-R SpecV - Click above for a high-res image gallery Beginning June 1, NISMO will begin taking pre-orders on a new ECU and Transmission Control Module (TCM) for the standard GT-R and its SpecV sibling. According to Nissan's motorsports arm, the ECU increases maximum boost pressure by 0.1 bar (1.5 psi) to crank-up low-end torque and enhance throttle response. The TCM tweaks supposedly deliver quicker downshifts and the speed limiter on the street (i.e. when not running on a GPS-approved race track) has been raised to 320 km/h - or just one tick shy of 200 mph.But as you'd expect, there's a hitch. Aside from the sizeable buy-in (294,000 yen, or just over $3,000 US), NISMO will only rent the duo of upgraded controllers for a 24-month term. After which, you either return the ECU and TCM units or shell out an additional $329 per year to keep them on board. Both modules are covered by NISMO's warranty and deliveries begin on June 24. | Leaky Injector ![]() | Nailed it. 3000/ 24 = $250/month ($250/$70000) * 100 = .36% So this thing offers sustainable (at least for the rental term) HP and tweaks for .36% of the cost of the vehicle. AND it's covered under warranty. .0036 * $18,000 (an optimistic value for a highly modified 240) = $64 $64 * 24 = $1,536 Eh, shit my comparison didn't come out how I planned. That PowerFC with a tune, or AEM EMS money. And you get to keep it. ..... That's all beyond the point. If you've got GTR money, this is probably a pretty cool thing. |

| Zilvia FREAK! ![]() | You guys are forgetting your not the GT-R market. Must I remind everyone, they require $200 oil changes. lol Putting it all into perspective, its not a bad deal. Generally, people follow the 50% rule for buying a new car (car value = 0.50 of your salary), but the GT-R is more of an enthusiast type product, so lets just say the avg salary of the owners of these $80,000 car is about $100,000 (going by a 80% of annual salary). With that established, say the person wants the ECU for 2 years. That is $3000. 3/100 is just 3% of his or her annual salary.

| Premium Member ![]() | ok you rent for two years, another better ecu comes out you pay for that one. but shit, 3000 for a ecu aint bad for that car. think of power fc's and other "plugin" ecu's for 240's that are $800-1300. thats as much as a 240 costs. and people are willing to pay that. but also its gauranteed to work and its warrantied by the factory. its like paying for performance with insurance included. so think of it more as 1500-2000 for the ecu and 1000 for insurance and warranty.

also u fail at math, 0.0036% is very different than 0.36% 0.0036 = $64,80 0.36 *18,000 = $6,480 also 3,000/24 = $125 (not $250) 125/70,000 *100 = 0.001785 0.001785 * $18,000 (modded 240sx) = $32.13 $32.13 *24 months = $771.12 Stock GTR = 10 psi = 480hp 1psi = 1% 1.5psi = 72 extra hp for the GTR = 15% increase in HP IF nismo came out with a chip for a stock SR (for example) that provided 15% increase in HP (30HP) for $771 for two years would you buy it? Also if I was a pussy I'd keep my car stock and save the money till the warranty ran out, but thats not the case, if I had the money for a GTR I'd say screw the warranty, go ape shit on mods and buy a cheap daily. ![]() | |
