It always seems a bit presumptuous when a "world champion" is declared for a sporting event played in America. After all, other countries have leagues for baseball, basketball, football, etc. Formula Drift, the most well known drifting association in the United States, isn't about to declare world superiority in the art of maneuvering a car sideways through a course, but it does want to find out who's the best. Partnering with Red Bull Energy Drink, Formula Drift will be bringing together the best drifters from around the world to compete head to head in one single event. The competition will be held in November on the docks in Long Beach, CA and will feature a purpose-built course that will test the limits of each driver's skills. With a few of us located in Los Angeles, you can be sure that Autoblog will be bringing you live coverage of the event. Full details in the press release after the jump.

I hope they make the track more visable than when i went to FD Long Beach. i could only see half the track at any given time

This will be at a completely different venue. FD Long Beach uses the pre-existing track layout and bleachers for the Long Beach Gran Prix. I heard this will take place at the docks of the Port of Long Beach. I grew up in Long Beach and don't know of any track there at the port. Maybe they will build one just for the venue. This seems very interesting. I'll be there for sure...

Very different. The one your talking about is put on by D1, not FD. If you notice, there is no date posted for the event yet. There's been a lot of political drama with D1 in the US, so this event might not even go on. I'll be there, too, if it does.

This one sounds fun. There's tons of room for a layout at the docks, if you drive west on Ocean blvd and cross the first bridge there's a huge lot on the right the size of 4-5 football fields.
