NASA Members? SoCal Region? Anyone?

So, lots of posting here in the Motorsports forum (Props to you all) but dont see much activity with the NASA crews.

Anyone else out there a registered NASA member?

Would like to see if anyone is gonna be out at either Buttonwillow April 14/15 or Willow Springs Intl May 5/6?

Im at least planning on both Saturday's, and more to come of course.

Holla back!

NASA doesnt have drifing, don't expect this thread to get far. Ugh.

Not a NASA member, but I do go to the track/autox occasionally, really depends on money. I might be able to make it out to a trackday closer to the end of april, most likely at buttonwillow.

I'm a NASA member had fun at the annaual cali speedway event a few weeks ago. I'm planning to have my car ready for the may event.

which HPDE class are you in. or are you in the TT-class. I'm hoping by next year to be in the ST class. my friend already competes in ST with his s13, his rival is currently the johnny pag 360modena haha.

and my friend who will be doing my cage is the current honda challenge h4 class points leader. so yah big pressure to get out there.

imma miss april event LBGP is that weekend, and the two just don't compare. champ cars, atlantic, ALMS, DPs, and SWC.

Yeah, i forgot about LBGP, but its Buttonwillow I love that track!

Im still in desperate need of more HPDE before i even think of Comp, but wanna get into TT for sure. New member with NASA myself, so im just going through the paces. HPDE2 just this next time. Ive been out with speedtrialusa and the TCRA guys many times, and now getting serious with NASA.
Hope to see you out there!

240sx can't run in SER class. last year they were in SRX (essentially class legal to run SR,RB,KA-t but like less then 10 cars competed), now the class is merged with super touring, which includes previous gen vipers, corvettes, and so forth, just another power to weight ration class. i did some driving in a blurple coupe on some kumho slicks at cali speedway. had the gmc girls at our stall all weekend.

my car is a white hatch with r32 gtr non vspec brakes, and all suspension mods. ikeya lcas. old style N1-pro coilovers.tanabe sways.spl tie rods ends. all handles and no HP. i'll be able to have fun in the corners and braking. but sit back on the straights waving people by.

Im pretty sure i talked to the purple cars owner. He was parked a little inside the pit area right? Running in HPDE 3? Not like its to hard to pic out 240s at a NASA track day since there are usually only 3 of them.

And i understand about getting passed by. I have an Sr coilovers and other junk. I can keep up through the corner but once i got to that back straight it would feel like i was giving it my all just to keep up.

Its about 500miles from you.
Website for them www.buttonwillowraceway.com Its in the middle of bum-fuck nowhere
This track is teh shit! 3mi long, and got everything you could want in a track.
Its up there with Willowsprings International, and you see it often in commercials and road-tests.

Damn excited, just ordered my new tires 30min ago (RT615;s), and gonna finally get to test my new seats and harnesses.
The only thing that will keep me from going is if i dont get my tranny done in time. Its at my nephew's shop getting some new syncrodes.
Which makes me even more excited cause ill have all new redline fluids in the tranny and diff to test out

great to see more 240's going to the track.

if you are thinking about w2w racing it is possible to stay in PTA and not move all the way up to ST1 or ST2, either way the 240 can be very competative. I have done 12 events here on the east coast and have found my lap times even now with such little experience to the racers not being too far behind.

as a clarification, 240sx's were llowed in SER last year as long as they were built to ITA specs, and for the old SRX classing, only SR engines were used. If you run in ST ever it doesnt matter what engine you have, just what your weightower ratio is, where as in PT classing works on a point system and with mild power work a 240 can stay in PT classing and be more competative in PTA than anywhere else. Before going for w2w so soon think about seat time, moer seat time wil get you more prepared and faster then aything else will.

I'm a proud NASA member, but I'm so busy running our own track events that I rarely find time to go to the NASA ones anymore.

I'm actually looking at an AI car this weekend though, so I might be around a lot more often!

I'm thinking of registering with NASA for the May 5th event at Willow Springs. It'll be my first time with NASA, obviously they'll put me into HPDE1.

My question is how long does it take to get bumped up? Is it one HPDE1 event, prove yourself, get signed off, go to HPDE2 at the next event, and so forth until you reach HPDE4 where you can apply for a competition license? I've been running open track events with SpeedVentures, Redline, and SpeedtrialUSA for about 4 years now with my S13, just stock KA with brakes and suspension work. My S14 is nearly completed, so I'm aiming for a NASA competition/TT license to compete in SoCal Region TT.

Anyways of obtaining this license quicker? Any info would be great!

Thanks guys

I have run the same as you, and when I first registered with NASA I started off at HPDE1. What a mistake that was. HPDE1 & 2 are both basicaly beginner (HPDE1 you get a ride-along instructor).
With what you have listed, id go straight for HPDE3. They will probably want you to list out your previous experience when you fill out the registration.
HPDE3 is considered Intermediate and is basicaly just relaxed passing restrictions. And i believe its only the HPDE3 sign-off thats needed to get into HPDE4. Since 4 runs with the TT guys at the same time, and they want make sure you not some fucking noob.

I just registered for HDPE3 on May5th. Maybe see ya out there.

Last event only had 3 240's on Sat (mine of one them) and the one TT guy blew his turbo on the first session of the day

Thanks for replying "mehsilvia"! Just what I wanted to hear! I was dreading registering for HPDE1.

My next question is, since its been 4 years of open tracking with my S13, my seat and harness have expired. Most likely I'll have to buy a new dated seat and harness to pass NASA tech inspection huh? Thats the good thing about the other organizers, they don't care if those safety items are expired as long as they're in good working condition.

Yea, I've been to a NASA event to watch at CA speedway and notice only 2 or 3 240's. If I make it to the May 5th event, for sure I'll stop by and say hi. Big Track at Willow with my stock KA, I can't help but laugh a little...

Yeah, run in Group 3 with me and ill be sure to wave back at ya . . . LOLZ!

And about your safety equip, they are more interested in its function/condition for HPDE. Ive yet to see them check or be concerned about the dates. As a matter of fact, the speedtrialusa and TCRA guys seem more picky about it.

Are you going to be running HPDE3 also?? I'm going to register for 3 hopefully with no probs.

I'll be in a white S13 coupe, see you guys there!

Also, to the guys that drove at the last Buttonwillow event, what configuration did they run?

Was it configuration #13 like in the photo? I ran this layout clockwise 2 weekends ago with Speedventures, config#13 is my favorite!
